Many games come out left un touched. Maybe it is a feeling that it just ain't worth it to buy the game. How ever I think Co-op gaming has something to do with this. I will try to put my spin on things so I feel better about Co-op Gaming.
For those of us old enough to remember arcade rooms fill with things that would take our quarters. Many of us put them in the Co-op machines like Simpsons, TMNT or some other Co-op game with four people. Well in today's world we still see these types of games being a bigger hit then almost any other title over PSN or XBLA. As noted above people want to play with others.
In recent weeks both PSN & XBLA was hit with Battlefield 1943. This co-op game might have been the fastest selling or won tons of awards, but playing with others is the main focus. Would most people pick this up if it was just single player? No they would not have and I doubt they would by this in disc form as well.
Other games like Castle Crashers who have sold over 900,000 copies on XBLA is moving over to PSN. This in ture would also do well as the Co-op factor runs strong in this games roots. The developers of this game took there knowledge of 2D side scrolling co-op games from there past and presented a great co-op game. Makes me wonder if they realized this was going to be this big of a hit before they released it.
Yes I may have went off on a tangent, but right now it is the life of Co-op gaming. In the coming months we will see Fat Princess and other Co-op games that will for ever melt them in our hearts and minds. Some of you may not choose to accept it, but Co-op is the new single player for many gamers.
