Dante's Inferno Won't Touch Any System of Mine

I know this game is not out yet and the developer is all ready asking for a sequel.  Yes, I don't have the right to bash a game before playing it.  However there are some things that make me wonder what one was thinking.

Here's the deal:

I downloaded the demo from the PSN as soon as the cable/phone & Internet guy left my house. Yes, I really wanted to play this game and like it. After the waiting period of downloading and then installing, I was finally ready to play.

Once the opening scene starts up on the demo you see a man. Well, this man appears to be self-mutilating himself with a piercing hook. This human act is something I just can't do. I did try to skip the scene to see game play, but no luck. Now for me this was enough to churn my stomach and delete the demo.

Some of you all may think I call the kettle black as I have tattoo's, and that could be called self mutilation as well.  How ever to watch someone else deliberately inflict pain to one's body with a sharp pointing object that penetrates the skin is a whole new ball game for me.

So, even though the Developers of this game might have made a great game.  I wont be purchasing this game for this reason.  Knowing many people don't mind stuff like this I hope there will be enough fans who buy this game.

Hearing about the opening and the games shamless marketing campaign, I'm with you Toby. The would have to review very very well for me to play it at this point.

Really, the mutilation is what stopped you? Was it just the lack of interactivity that made it so disturbing? Do you play a lot of violent games? As far as the demo goes, you didn't miss much; the demo is full of carbon-copy GOW-gameplay, gratuitous nudity and lousy cartoons.

It is only the watching of mutilation that stopped me. The violent I get is either Borderlands, BioShock. As far as other games I tend to stay away from the Man-Hunts, Silent Hills, RE and those kind of games. For me to watch just mutilation of any sort is a turn off due to personal prefference.

Good choice, the game becomes gratuitous and gory in later stages. It is hell afterall.

Yeah... anyone at least marginally acquainted with the Divine Comedy and/or Dante's Inferno (the poem), would know that... um... yeah... Hell is no bueno, man. And considering the BS "hype" campaign of an unpublished game being preemptively protested by faux-religious folks combined with the aforementioned... Did you think it'd be good? I know what games I'm looking forward to next year, and my reduced budget notwithstanding, I can confidently tell you garbage like this won't be on my list. Ever. P.S. Once upon a time I liked "gore" such as Ninja Gaiden I on Xbox and whatnot... but God of War never really garnered my attention, and neither would a trashy carbon copy. Now I know some would say GoW and NG are kinda similar... but Gaiden's that's got ninjas...

That last line shouldn't have a "that's" in it. Sorry about that. Also, thank you so much for posting this, Toby. Hopefully people will be warned this game is full of stupid and dumb and steer clear!

I just have no interest in the game, period. But thanks for sharing your thoughts, Toby! And it's good to have you posting again.

I'm really excited to play Dante's Inferno because of how messed up it looks lol. The demo still isn't up on the aus psn store yet, I really want to play it.

@Aaron you create multiple psn users so you can download demos from different regions.

I preferred this game when it was called Devil May Cry. DMC at least had a sense of humor about itself. All the "Dark" 3D action platformers since then have seemed(to me at least) to just be trying to out-gore each other. Shock value only counts for so much with me.

@Toby from what I remember Bioshock's original trailer was pretty gruesome. The Big Daddy is seen drilling through your character's hand as he's helplessly trying to delay his death before using his plasmid to create bug swarms out of his arms to kill the Big Daddy. If anything, some things that are disgusting can get people to play your game.

@Kevin that is not self mutilation though as it is someone harming someone else.
