Is It Time For Electronic Arts To Bring Back Road Rash?

Electronic Arts has always been a dominating force in the gaming industry, with hits ranging from the popular Need For Speed and Medal of Honor franchises to their dominating sports division, EA Sports. EA had it all, and although the company is still doing quite well, there's no doubt that a line-up of somewhat lackluster sequels coupled with a difficult economy has hit it hard (Ex. Black Box). Does this mean that it may finally be time for EA to bring back one of their most popular racing series of all time?

If you couldn't already tell, yes, I'm talking about the Road Rash franchise. With EA suffering significantly higher losses over the past few years compared to their past monetary performance, is it time for this adrenaline fueled racer/brawler to make a comeback? With Electronic Arts development division in dire need of some new, hot IPs, it really wouldn't be bad idea in the meantime, to re-vamp the old formula that was Road Rash was so well known for.

Now, picture this, an all-new Road Rash, recreated from the ground up with Criterion Games heading development? A robust online component would have gamers coming back for more as they take their friends out online with a can of mase or a crowbar. EA already has pretty close ties with Criterion and both companies would more than benefit from such a beautiful joint effort. So, I pose this question to you. Should Electronic Arts bring back the Road Rash franchise? Would you buy it? And most importantly, EA, would YOU be willing to bring your baby back? Who knows. With a bit of effort, EA could potentially bring back another classic franchise to add to their current-gen roster and further strengthen their brand. With Call of Duty sweeping the FPS/War genre and the Need For Speed franchise (Criterion is currently developing a yet to be announced NFS title) on life support, this may be just the 'boost' EA needs.

Occasionally I'll post a blog or article here on BitMob that I've written for the Sony/PlayStation site that I write  for and this is a little diddy I came up with in my spare time. Hope you enjoyed it!

I don't think I would buy it. Fun for back then, but then again that was some good clobbering times.

I'd have to wait and see if it's any good before I would say that I'd buy it, but I'm all for them giving it a go. It has to be a better idea than 3 Need for Speed games in one year, right?
