Mobcast logo

This is it, the debut episode of the Mobcast, a podcast that is destined to be described by iTunes commentators as "Five guys in a room? Really?" and "No 97.5 the Brodeo."

Our first show was recorded a bit over a month ago, during the Game Developers Conference, so pardon a few out-of-date references to the revolutionary telegraph machine. Aside from Dan 'Shoe' Hsu, who you'll hear on most episodes of Mobcast, special guests on Mobcast 001 include former EGM and 1UPers Mark MacDonald, Che Chou, Chris Johnston, Bryan Intihar, and Shane Bettenhausen. We also have Robert Ashley of A Life Well Wasted adding some additional commentary as the disembodied voice of God. Special thanks to Robert for handling production duties as well.

We could go into detail about the many topics this show actually covers, but we'd rather you stop reading and start listening!

Is there a direct download option? I don't have iTunes here at work where I listen to podcasts. Glad to see you guys getting off the ground and seeing so many familiar faces that I've followed through the years. Good luck!

Wel just listened to it and reviewed it on iTunes. Sorry Dan I was in a hurry to write the review and misspelled your name(it was a typo). Well I got the S and H turned around.Sometimes one hand types faster than the other. I really like the format and while this sounded like it was recorded a while back I think it was a good episode 01. keep them coming. :)

Greatest turn around ever. RSS and Direct Download added. Thanks guys. Episode 1 was great although, with 5 topics per episode, I wonder how fast you're gonna run out of topics. Please keep that in mind.

I'm not sure if I can add another podcast to my daily routine, but I'm even more sure I can't pass this one up. I'll check it out tomorrow on the daily commute. It's good to see you guys back on iTunes even if the number "1" followed by an undisclosed direction aren't involved in the title.

Enjoyed the podcast and I really liked the format of each guest having a topic. My only complaint is that, if Che Chou appears on future episodes, please stop interrupting people and trying to finish their sentences for them. He derailed, or at least slowed down, a lot of interesting statements by trying to summarize them before the person was able to get them out. Really like the format though and I'll be back next week (or however often these are).

Whoah, I'm loving this. I thought The Geekbox (plugged for Ryan Scott) was going to have to be my only source of quality gaming podcast-stuffs. Awesome job.

Just finished it. I thought it was awesome. I (again) have to agree with Robert. You don't have to be super original because it is rare for some people to have others to bullshit about games with. My fav podcast since the break up of 1up and EGM guys would have to be rebel FM ep.8 - that episode was great because it was about games and had stories I can relate with and most of all, it was funny. Please make a link on the side or somewhere listing when a new one of these is up so it doesn't get buried under the new posts on the site.

I'm nearing podcast overload (just had to drop a couple in fact), but I like the idea of Mobcast. The first episode got by on personality alone, and the ideas you guys were throwing out somehow overcame probably the worst crosstalk I've ever sat through. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Loading now....... Dan Hsu is the most respected magazine writer in the business imo. Now that you are here, I'm in for good. Also, I liked the interview you had with HipHop Gamer. Only request I have is, in your podcasts, don't be afraid to talk about the NPD #'s as others are afraid to. I'm looking very forward to playing podcast #001.

If this is any indication of the future of show then we're in for a treat. Mark hit on my exact sentiment as of late. The dozen or so shows with 4-5 dudes talking about the exact same shit is making me feel like I'm wasting my time, the ones who do it right (1up yours - Joystiq - Giant Bomb) are mainstays at this point but beyond them I'm bored. The layout so far for the Mobcast is refreshing. Robert Ashley is doing it right already and it definitely feels like a shift is happening in podcasting in general, away from the current trend, so I'm excited to have a new show thats doing something different particularly with such well-respected writers/developers.

Ok, I just finished listening to the podcast, and I have to say I really like it. I like the line-up that you had, I've always liked the 1UP podcasts that everyone was on back in the day. It's nice to hear everyone's point of view from the other side of the fence. I still listen to 1UP with Garnett and David Elise, but they usually complain about the same thing and it's the same show every week. I don't want to say anything bad about their shows, because I do listen to them for the news. I don't always have time to read my RSS feeds. I hope you continue with this podcast, like A Life Well Wasted, it's a nice change of pace.

Good Podcast guys. I was told it sounded janky because of the equipment but not too shabby. Just had a quick point I'd like to bring up regarding OnLive and that form of content delivery. I wrote an article a few weeks back and I'll basically sum up the main point. Do you not think that by the time bandwidth is capable of supporting HD video constantly, hardware will be so cheap that streaming it will become obsolete. I believe that in terms of Graphics we are close to reaching a realistic potential. Sure in a decade time we'll be able to process crazy stuff but how much of that will be relevant to the gamer. Moore's Law proves that in a few years we can pick up Playstation 3 or an equivalent for crazy knock down prices. When you could get that in your house for cheap why would you want to rely on multiple third parties. Any thoughts?
