Newly home from my ten day journey I have reflected. The Friday before PAX my wife and I attended a NickleBack concert at the Gorge in Quincy Washington. She was worried it wasn't my thing; I worried PAX wouldn't be hers. We both ended up be ridiculously happy with the results both ways.
I have many pictures and videos but can't find the cables. But lacking those cables made me think about what to write here and how I felt about my experience Let me just say my favorite part of PAX is the people. The people of PAX that have flocked from the world round really made this last weekend for my wife and I.
I met Aussies and Brits; Canadians and Koreans. I didn't see one bad situation the whole time. When a person bumped into another person it was pardon me and excuse me. If you were in line for a panel and needed to use the head, just ask your neighbor he can be trusted. I am sure bad things happen but for having so many people in the same spot not much did.
This was a weekend where everyone including the developers and other speakers were in geek heaven. My wife just laughed when I saw Ryan Scott and couldn't bring myself to go over and say hello. I've met NFL football players and MLB players and did not feel that way. I finally did thank Mr. Scott for the entertainment he has provided on the dullest of days.
I figured this would be my trip to Mecca, my pilgrimage to the holy land. I thought this was my one chance to worship in the heart of my hobby. Thanks to the great people who attended and helped run PAX 09. I will be back next year. How could I stay away from the beacon of light that is Seattle in September when I live just across the state.
