My Keyboard and Mouse Would Kill You!

Gamers commonly beat the scapegoat while playing first-person shooters (FPS), “I would KILL YOU!!!...if I had a keyboard and mouse...” Yet Neither Xbox 360, or PlayStation 3 (PS3) fully support a keyboard and mouse function. In fact, Unreal Tournament 3 is the only game on the PS3 that supports a keyboard and mouse. But what about Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, Gears of War?

There are adapters, and thingamajigs that can cost up around $100; but no official Sony or Microsoft made paraphernalia.

It's doubtful a keyboard and mouse would take over the standard controller. After all, who wants to play Uncharted or Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver using a keyboard? Not me!

A keyboard and mouse makes browsing the Internet easier, messaging friends more convenient, and fragging more efficient. Providing keyboard and mouse capability could also cause a switch from PC to console bringing more players to the Battlefield.

So why isn't there more support for a keyboard and mouse when it seems clear a large audience of gamers want it?

- Just for arguments sake, I play games just fine with a controller. Maybe get a little sick of hearing other people whine through headsets or hallways about their glorious PC fragging days.

part of it, i think, is balance. If you allow people to play console mutliplayer shooters with a mouse and keyboard you are punishing the people who want to use a controller. Basically making them second class citizens because they don't like PC controls. If you play with a controller on a PC game it's a self imposed limitation so it isn't that big of a deal. You know what you are getting into. But to allow for a superior control scheme to not be the basic way of playing the game that is availible to everyone would cause a lot of anger among people who are unable to or unwilling to use a keyboard and mouse to play a console shooter. Like me....i freaking hate keyboard and mouse controls. Online games already have enough fairness issues with cheating and host advantage being such constant nagging issues but to add in an inequity on the interface end would be a dumb move. paramount to putting 'keyboard and mouse required for optimum experience' on the back of the box. To the people who say 'if I had a keyboard and mouse i would totally beat you.' when playing console shooters. Why aren't you playing a PC shooter? If you like the control scheme so much then go to it. It's calling you home. And asking you to leave us alone.
