1) "Screams from the Tower of Monsters" from Dragon Quest VII has a ominous theme to it that plays whenever you enter one of those huge towers filled with holes, power enemies, hidden items, and a boss waiting for you at the top.

2)  "Singing Stadium" really captures the happiness of the town or kingdom when it plays in Dragon Quest VII.

3) "Torneko's Theme" from Dragon Quest IV has to be one of the most catchy themes I have heard in a Nintendo NES game. You really have to have some talent to make something in that era that is worth listening to for longer than a minute.

4) "Frighting Dungeon" from Dragon Quest IV also has a catchy theme for a dungeon.

5) Now here comes another Tower theme. "Cursed Towers" from Dragon Quest IV is also a favorite of mine. In a Mashup of all of Chapter 5 of the game this is the one song that stands out to me.

Thanks for posting this. One of my favorite aspects of Dragon Quest is its music -- my favorite is the score from Dragon Quest 8. Japanese RPGs seem to feature better scores than their Western counterparts. I love the score of Baldur's Gate 2, but the score from Dragon Age: Origins is rather forgetable.

Yeah I think music a key element to Japanese RPGS and that's why they are treated so well in production.
