News Blips:

Those of you holding your breath for a GoldenEye port to either Xbox 360 or the Wii should stop before you pass out (if you haven't already). Rare has come out to say that the chances of the game seeing a re-release has passed. It's a shame we won't be able to stop moving to aim our guns at square-headed enemies anytime soon. [1UP]

The Flight of the Conchords is coming to Rock Band. In a pre-show Emmys interview, the band stated that three of its songs are to come out in the popular guitar rhythm game but did not provide specifics as to which. We wonder if Rock Band will let players perform the binary solo on guitar: 0000001 00000011 000000111 00001111. [Joystiq]

Maybe someone important at Sony was a fan of our Dreamcastiversary. A leaked memo on Sega's PR site suggests that we might be seeing PS2 games ported to and emulated on the PlayStation Network, and exclusive ports of Dreamcast titles could be somewhere down the line. Man, we can't wait to rebuy the PS2 classics we already own and can still play on our launch PS3s. Value at its finest. [Destructoid]

New Wii in 2011? Square-Enix head Yoici Wada seems to think so. In an interview with Financial Times, the executive covered a range of topics including the minimal impact motion controls will have on gaming as a whole, while suggesting that the successor or upgrade to the Wii would roll around two years from now. Will this be like three GameCubes duct-taped together? [Kotaku]

Value at its finest.
:D - If they can get PS2 games to play on any PS3 then why not go the 360 route and just release patches? My guess for the name of the successor of the Wii is Wii Plus, or even better, the SuperWii!!!

Bummer on the Goldeneye info, you would think they would want to cash in on it at the very least.

It's a pity about GoldenEye but understandable: it would need to be reworked from the ground up to be even remotely playable now. It's never actually existed in the present, going from years ahead of the art on release to almost immediately being dated. I played it recently and nothing but sheer nostalgia love kept me going. If you do want to see it modern and beautiful, check out the incredible GoldenEye Source

I would pay $60 for a totally reworked from the ground up modernized goldeneye 007. The single player experience was fantastic and well the multiplayer....nothing needs to be said about that. It would have to be modified and have unlockables and upgrades though.

I don't get why some many people wanted Goldeneye as a downloadable game? I guess I never played the multiplayer with friends but Perfect Dark was better and we are getting that one in a few months.

@David GoldenEye 64 was a ton of fun -- it was one of the first really enjoyable, well-executed multiplayer FPSes for a console. I'm not sure folks would enjoy it as much now without some sort of modern updating.
