In Overlord: Minions, you play the role of the evil overlord of… well, a group of minions. You have four minion types, each a different color and each with a different specialty. You must combine their specialties and have them interact with each other in order to get from point A to point B through dungeons.
Doing just that, interacting with your minions, is flawed. Controlling them is done with touch screen buttons when tapping minions directly is more desirable. Dragging the stylus leads your minions, however minions tend to wonder in the general direction after the stylus as oppose to following it dead on. They often get snagged on a wall or corner without notice only to soon die. It’s not unusual for the game to glitch in this situation, leaving them stuck permanently and leaving you to restart.
The levels are all pretty cookie cutter design: they all require the same exact things to pass. I can easily relate it to algebra, once you know the formula you just have to figure out what number (or minion) goes where.
The enemies of Overlord: Minions are the only things that keep the levels difficult. While the enemies continue to grow stronger throughout the game interestingly your minions do not. Your expected to gain the upper hand by better familiarizing yourself with the puzzle aspect, but this just seems like a weak replacement for variation in level design.
Overlord: Minions may have a cluster fuck of a control scheme and offer levels that quickly seem unoriginal, but it manages these things by staying short. You never have much time for the problems to become a bother before the game is over. If your looking for a few hours of fun and are keen on puzzles then pick up Overlord: Minions.
