PAX 2009: Will the Mob be There?

Editor's note: This is a great idea -- Bitmob does need to represent at the Penny Arcade Expo, though unfortunately, none of the main staff will be there this year due to a lack of a budget. If any of you have any interest in meeting other community Bitmobbers at PAX, however, please post a comment. If there's enough interest, this can be the start of a new tradition. -Jason

I know that Gamescom is the current talk of the week, but I'd like to take a moment to look ahead to 2009's next big gaming event -- the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle!

As you can see, my pass has already arrived in the mail. The excitement of receiving this piece of plastic kick-started my preparation for another three days of gaming bliss at PAX.

I assume that I won't be the only member of the Mob present at this year's festivities, so I wonder...has anyone planned some sort of member meet-up?

The Bay Area Bitmob Community Meet-Up looked like a blast. It would certainly be interesting to have another gathering like that in the Seattle area, and I think PAX would be the perfect place to do it.

Since the show's close to the heart of downtown Seattle, there should be plenty of prime locations for an event like this. I would gladly spend some time with other users of this fine community at PAX, so let me know what y'all think!

[quote]but I had to be at my daughters birth.../(quote] Man, birth is so overrated! Anyways, I was wishing to get out there, but the airfare cost is too much for me. Plus now, that weekend is when I'm having my wisdom teeth pulled.

Wish I could go, but don't know where I will be at.

I'm registered for PAX too, and I'd definitely like to meet other Bitmobbers at some point while I'm there. Last time I went with my gf, but this time I'm probably going solo, so I'll likely have plenty of opportunities to meet people. I'm not familiar with the Seattle area--all I know is that the place I'm staying at is about 0.5 miles away, so I guess I'll have to look into things ahead of time.

David and Brian - You lucky, lucky bastards!!! I expect pictures, videos, sound clips and hostages... @Joshua - one day, far in the future, your daughter will be surfing the web and will come across a comment that her father made years earlier....... ;D

I wish we could be there! We have no funds/budget to go, so no one on Bitmob is going...except maybe Karen Chu. I wish we could do another meet-up somewhere else besides SF (to be fair), because our pile of free stuff to give away is getting big!

I see, sorry to hear that, but I can't help but grow intrigued by this growing pile of freebies...

I'll be there. At PAX, I mean, not the theoretical East-Coast Meet-up. Although lobster is pretty good...

I just got my three day pass too ;D I live like half a hour from Seattle so I wouldn't even have an excuse if I wasn't going. If we do some sort of meet up in Seattle, outside the convention center is it possible we could do it some where minors can get in (i.e. not a bar)... I'm only 15...:(

Well, I guess so far that makes it me, Brian, Jeff, and Davin who will be at the show. Are there any other Bitmob users who might want to hang out for a bit at PAX?

Unfortunately, with PAX being on the other end of the US for me I won't be going (same problem with E3). But PAX 2010 on the East Coast is a definite possibility so if this happens next year I might go.

Lunch on Friday? One-ish? A local Seattle brewery, perhaps?

Depending on when we all get to Seattle, would dinner on Thursday work for anyone? That way we wouldn't have to plan around the show as much, or leave and come back.

I get there early friday morning, and I like the idea of a lunch break from the show with a couple beers, and then back to the show madness...but maybe that's just me?

I'm really open to anything; I just thought that it would be easier to coordinate if there was going to be a time we knew everyone was free (we might be standing in a line or attending a panel at 1, and not be able to leave). That's why I thought a dinner might work better.

I think Friday lunch would work best since I will be settling in on Thursday. I have no idea where to go though since this is my first PAX.

August 22, 2009
Sounds like Friday seems to be the day based on what I'm reading. For the time, I'd hope to do it around 2 PM, unless anyone planned on viewing any panels around that time that would cause a conflict. As for the location, the only three major eateries in close proximity to PAX that I've dined at are the Tap House Grill, GameWorks, and Cheesecake Factory. Any of those places sound good for y'all or do you have any other suggestions? Remember, we've got some young'uns in the Mob!

2 things, I'm 15 and I would like to attend so it would be nice if I could that legally. Secondly the PAX keynote ends at 2:00 and I would also like to attend that, so mabye a 2:30 meet up would be good?
Dtj
August 22, 2009
A 2:30 meeting is fine with me. Any other objections? I'm pretty sure that there are all ages sections of those locations I listed, but once again, I'm up for any other possible suggestions!

Pick a place I'll be there.

I don't know about Cheesecake Factory, but I appreciate its close proximity to PAX. Is GameWorks over-blown like Dave and Busters? Either way, that place has the potential to be packed. I've already heard it talked about on a couple of PAX-related message boards. But, wait a minute, Tap House Grill is a brewery/restaurant--meaning fun for all ages. That could do the trick. Check it out: http://www.taphousegrill.com/ Also, GameWorks: http://www.gameworks.com/

Also, 2:30 sounds about right. And thanks to David for getting this thing started!

The Tape House Grill looks nice and for some reason I don't think we'd need to play more videogames at lunch when we're at PAX.

The Tap House sounds like the best option to me.
