Kick-Ass is in theaters now and getting some great reviews. You still have some time to catch it before the video game based on the movie hits PlayStation Network on April 29.
But what if you got the game for free? That would be...well...Kick-Ass, wouldn't it?
We've got 10 copies to hand out to Bitmob readers (via download codes), and we're going to give you three chances to snag one.
Method #1
Post a comment telling us about your favorite kick-ass video game moment. Interpret that as you will.
Method #2
Do the same through Twitter by responding to this status update.
Method #3
Again, do the same through our Facebook page.
We'll randomly select four winners from the comments to this post, three winners from the responses on Twitter, and three winners from responses on Facebook.
If you are going to try all three methods, try and give us three different kick-ass moments.
This contest ends April 28. All community members are eligible, as these are codes! Except Bitmob staff and immediate family, that is. Don't think I didn't see you try to enter, Mr. DeRosa. Void where prohibited.
Double bonus: We're drawing our winners randomly, but we're going to take our favorite answers and collect them in next week's Tweetbook Q&A!
I think I'm going to have to go with the scene where you kill Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time. It was a perfect climax for the game (especially because the climax in the castle was so much darker than the rest of it), and so awesome when you got the Master Sword back and just cut up Ganon's face -- with red blood in the "good" versions of the game.
My favourite kick-ass moment is also Zelda, and also Ganon - but in The Wind Waker. After fighting him in several forms and scaling the tower, the battle comes down to a flurry of blades with Ganon dual-weilding katanas. Which is pretty kick-ass in itself. But the game ends on a high note of kick-assery when, after an intense fight, cute little cartoon child Link up and impales the Master Sword through Ganon's head.
Interesting to note that all of the responses here so far are from single player games, but all of the facebook responses are from multiplayer.
The other day in Bad Company 2 I sniped like 3 or 4 people from a far, and I was pretty proud of myself. Then a tank started coming around the corner. I'm not sure if it saw me or not, but I managed to hide behind a broken down wall until he turned the corner, place a charge of C4 on it as it rolled by, and blow it up. I think I may have even gotten another kill after I died, but I'm not quite sure. I certainly felt pretty kick-ass after that.
When I was in my teens I had an epic game of Mortal Kombat II going at the local multiplex. I was putting on a show - none of the (younger) kids facing me could beat me, so I was using outrageous moves aplenty to amuse myself and those around me. Imagine my surprise when one of the people watching was comedian Robert Klein! Here was a guy I had seen on television and now he's watching me.
I can only assume he was really watching his kid play the game but he clearly saw enough of me to recognize I was in charge. Before he left, he just said to me "You're pretty good at this!" It was certainly a kick-ass ending to an evening spent at the movies.
BTW, if you don't know who Robert Klein is, look him up. At the time, his stand-up career was a lot more active than it is now.
Well if you were to ask at what point in gaming I felt the most like Kick-Ass. I would say it was when I jumped onto the online mode in super street fighter 4. I squared off against a ken player and got my ass kicked by flow chart fireball/dragon punch super zoning. At that point they would have called me Ass-Kick...eheheheh....ehm....wait...that doesn't even make any sense.....sorry.
Possibly the most epic moment I've ever experienced while gaming was my battle against the final form of Smithy in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I had spent the long battle juggling between Mario, Peach, and Bowser, using Peach to heal while the others did damage. Smithy had so much health, and I had him down to the wire, when he used an AoE that killed Bowser and Peach and left Mario with 5 hp. I was out of Pick Me Up's, and Mario was completely dry on Flower Points so I had no specials available, my only choice was to attack Smithy directly with my hammer. I remember doing it very sadly, knowing that once I hit him, he would wipe me out and render my last hour of fighting him futile. But I timed my button presses with the hammer, which just barely managed to destroy Smithy! I remember seeing him exploding, with Mario standing barely alive and his fallen comrades beside him, and with my last dying breath I knew I had saved the Mushroom Kingdom.
Recently I was playing MAG on one of the large maps, and the enemy had taken over our control point. Upon walking up the stairs I realized that I was A) Completely alone and B) Outnumbered 5-1. However, I am both a machine-gun toting medic, so in a flurry of action I started shooting at anything thing threatening and man shaped. Either through pure shock and awe or simply luck I managed to kill four of the five before they had a chance to take more than 80% of my health.
In one last desperate action, I ran at top speed toward the last remaining soldier, his gun pointed in my direction and spewing hot death. With my health down to about 10% I dispatched him with the old "knife in the face" trick. With precious few seconds, I pulled out a medkit and restored myself in order to give myself a good buffer to re-capture the station.
Success! By the time another wave had come, my team had joined me and we had a secure foothold. All in all, a pretty tense twelve seconds.
BONUS KICK-ASS MOMENT: I beat Demon's Souls. To those that have done the same, you know what I am talking about. To those who have only beaten one or two bosses, you know how awesome that could be. To those that have not played it... I am afraid I can't compare it.
