"d the comments on the original article, it explains his story in more detail, not to mention how the author of the piece didn't speak to anyone else about what the guy was doing or his history, etc., taking his word for granted throughout all of it. If the commenters are to be believed, after a series of complaints CoH changed the game so he can't pull off his exploit anymore.
He found an exploit and thrilled in using it over and over on anyone who happened to cross his path. The guy was griefing and surprise, people hated him for it. He's not some super-powerful über-gamer or an "I out-thought the game!" super genius. He's the digital equivalent of your little brother sitting next to you on a long car ride spinning his finger next to your head saying over and over, "Im not touching you, I'm not touching you." Was he breaking the rules? no. Was he being a a dick? Yes. Should he be rewarded with accolades for his research discovering that groups of people, online (as much as off) hate others who act like dicks? No.
