E3 2009: Concept Art of New Zelda for Wii
Written by Dan Hsu

Earlier this week, Miyamoto revealed to the press a new Zelda for Wii that wasn't shown at E3. Below is the concept art that we saw (man, that would've made for one beauty of an EGM cover). If you need a giant 3531x5000 version to wallpaper your gaming room with, click here.

Tear drop on the forehead. Awesomeness at its best. Blowing off wii.

I hope Miyamoto does something outside of the "Ocarina/Twilight Princess" realm with Zelda (i.e. not going with the traditional Hyrule and realistic setting). I really enjoyed Wind Waker a lot more than I thought I would. In fact, it's one of my favorite Zelda games of all time. Going with a more stylistic and different art style would really interest me, especially since Miyamoto's pedigree is outstanding when it comes to new, innovative game design.

Anyone's thoughts on the theory that the girl is the Master Sword incarnate? I blew the idea off at first but her cape does remind me of the hilt to the master sword...

I don't know, it is possible. I'm not sure how that would make sense, except I guess that Link isn't holding a sword...hmm.

I think this is pretty suggestive of something co-operative even, given Nintendo's track record with franchises lately. it's probably the biggest innovation they could do to what would be a traditional next-gen Zelda title.

I'm not sure, but I think it's just a Zora. But I've been wrong before.

It appears to be the same art style as the Twilight Princess pictures, and that girl seems similar to those creatures that tried to seal Ganondorf away in the previous game as well, so is it safe to say that Nintendo is on track for a sequel to Twilight Princess?

I posted this yesterday and no one cared. smilies/angry.gif

I cared, Eric Bleecker. By God, I cared. I commented and everything. smilies/smiley.gif

also, as much of a Zelda fan as I am, maybe it's just coz I'm an adult and all jaded and crap now, but I have a hard time getting excited over a sheet of concept art. There is definitly a cool factor that comes with it. But still, the promise of a new Zelda game being in development isnt much of a promise... we all knew it was happening.

still looking forward to what they've been up to, though.

...the game will still end up sucking just like almost everything on the Wii.

I guess they should just cancel the game now, huh?

who gives two shits if the girl is zora or the master sword

Ummm, apparently some of us.

the game will still end up sucking just like almost everything on the W

Please go away from this site, and never come back. I like being able to have an intelligent conversation on this site (which is hard when there are biased people like you). But don't worry, 1up will surely enjoy your undivided attention.

Man this is going to be exactly what we have seen before. It's identical to every time a new zelda game is announced. The hype overcomes the game. who gives two shits if the girl is zora or the master sword the game will still end up sucking just like almost everything on the Wii.

oh my... I hope I don't sound like this.

Ugh...sorry for two things, everyone:

1. Not deleting that fanboy rant earlier.

2. Eric: my bad, I didn't see your post. smilies/sad.gif If I had, I would've just promoted your story to the front page instead of doing a separate one. I was still delirious from not getting enough sleep all week and wasn't paying attention. Sorry!

This seems too far off for me to get excited about. Nevertheless, the EGM reference made me a little sad.
