"Two words: Mon-tage!"
Those are the words of Sony's "VP" of pretty much everything, Kevin Butler, before he unleashes a barrage of Ps3 awesome in one of the (sort of) new Ps3 commercials for Sony's "It only does everything" campaign. In my opinion, this is the best ad campaign for any video game or system. Sony has really struck gold with Butler's zany humor to go along with some of their less serious games. One example is the commercial for Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time. It plays to the series' obvious strengths, the weapons.
Most commercials for video games and systems cannot survive by being serious. Only Halo can do that without repercussions. All they have to do is say "Halo" and then a number, and thousands of fanboys will wet themselves. Other games need a bit more. One example is Sony's Uncharted 2 commercial, where a guy's girlfriend thinks that it's a movie. It is downright hilarious.
I think more companies should try the comedy route, because video games aren't taken seriously enough yet. Us gamers, despite becoming more numerous every day, are not taken as seriously as movie buffs just yet. Even though he's funny, Kevin Butler isn't exactly helping the cause. Not that I'm complaining.

I generally don't like serious stuff when it comes to the media so I am really enjoying this new marketing strategy Sony is doing.
Kevin Butler is the man.

Uncharted 2 was a good start in the exclusives push, but I'm finding both Xbox and PS3 exclusives to be lacking as of late. Not complaining, mind you! Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, I'm VERY happy to see these games multiplatform.
I just think that, Nintendo aside, exclusives don't really seem to be the driving force for console sales anymore. Honestly, since the Playstation 2, I'm not sure any current-gen-wars have played those cards very strongly.
Nintendo will always have Nintendo games, so that's sort of unfair. But you can honestly point to Mario, Zelda, Metroid and say THOSE sell machines. Because they do.
