"First, love the new look, especially the comments section.  Very clean.

Onto problems:  the login button below the comments section doesn't highlight or click, but luckily the one at the top of the page still works.  Also, is the page button at the bottom of the post supposed to be there with only one page?"

"@Rachel, I will admit it was quite tricky at the beginning of the game.  This is all based off of 10+ year old memories, but I believe there was an order to the caves that needed to be figured out and some could be skipped entirely.  Once you get to the spaceport/cantina it's pretty linear, although getting around the death star is a bit of a chore.  It's definitely a difficult game (or at least it was when I was a kid), but I couldn't tell you whether that's a design problem or not."

"@Rachel, I used to love that game!  It's been a while though.  Is it really bad?  That's unfortunate.

I can't speak for everyone, but when I was a kid I certainly didn't think about the creation of a game.  Games simply were.  I thought whatever the game threw at me, that's how it was specifically designed.  I accepted games for what they were and just tried my best.  I'm sure this contributed to my increased enjoyment of the games i played.

And if it had Star Wars in the title, it was the best thing ever."

"In response to Rob's gaming rig, those graphics cards were $200-$250 each at the time of release and the processor was $850.  Add in a motherboard, harddrive, memory, case, and power supply and you've got a $1500-$2000 machine.  Yes, you could pick up a comperable rig for possibly $500 now, but it's only going to last another couple years.  If you want a rig that's going to last you another 5-6 years, you're going to have to plunk down the cash.  Of course, you can counter that by saying that you've saved hundreds on the games through Steam sales and such over the past 5 years, but it's still a hefty investment.

That said, I'm a PC gamer through and through.  I enjoy playing consoles, but I always come back to the PC for the freedom, community, and mods."

"I really like this idea Dan, but one thing I would append to Bechdel 2.0 would be that the female characters have to be sentient, someone who could actually have a conversation, although they don't have to.  For instance, this rules out the Left 4 Dead example, as you can't have a conversation with zombies. "

"Wow, you made some great points here.  I definitely never thought about how weird some of those scenes would be in super realistic graphics.  I hope I don't have any nightmares tonight..."

"Hey B.J. - I enjoyed your article.  I've felt the same way for quite some time now. This rating system is too perverted to ever allow any number range to work in the future. However, if I'm not mistaken, the letter grading system (A-F) is known everywhere and would make an excellent replacement.  The letters already have feelings associated with them: A is a must play, B is a good game with some flaws that could be overlooked, C is average; D is poor but still playable, and F is avoid at all costs.

Sure, there's still the problem of having a grading system at all, but I feel this would be a step in the right directions.  At the very least, it wouldn't hurt the heads of all us math oriented folks.

Any chance we could make it happen?"

"my opinion, it isn't the penalty of death that makes a game, but the interactivity. If you can create an experience that will suck the player into the world then you've got something. If death gets in the way of that, then bypass it. One option might be to make a checkbox in the options menu to get rid of death during more scripted sequences. To use the example given, say Drake misses the swing from the pole to the handhold. Instead of plummeting, maybe he grabs onto a lower handhold and has to climb back up to the one he should have grabbed in the first place. It might be a nice middle ground between what we have now and what Heavy Rain seems to be trying to do. I realize this isn't ideal, as it would probably be a lot more work on the part of the developer, along with the problem of deciding what the "more scripted" parts actually are. It also touches on the whole hardcore vs. casual, "are you really beating the game" mentality, but I think it's an interesting thought nonetheless. All I know is that I would have more fun being immersed in the cinematic quality of the"

"rcraft - While not even in my top 10 games, it need to be on the list for its revolutionary design, unparalleled balance in the face of fundamentally different factions, and cultural significance (one word: Korea). Deus Ex - While it may not have been the first, I believe that it perfected the First Person Action RPG genre. With a compelling story and an enormous variety of ways to play through the game, both in terms of how it's played (run-and-gun, stealth) and story paths, it deserves to be on the"

"e, this website rocks... and by rocks, i mean sucks! Oh, BURN! No, really, I think the creation of this site is one of the better ideas, from the world of gaming, to be created in the last few years. I think that this type of article (with a little more work) could really be an interesting way to write, going back over events that happened a month ago with more depth and analysis, rather than banging stuff out to be the first. I look forward to the future of this site and hope to contribute what I can. And get that thumb better"
