"My favorite thing about the vectrex was that it didnt monopolize the TV. My roomates were not gamers and wouldn't let me use the tv to game. Also it was a great arcade machine, i never bothered with the colored overlays."

"@ed LMAO as i am on my 3rd 360... I believe that at least 25% of xbox 360s MS claims to have sold were replacements. I literally do not know anyone personally, who is not on their 2nd or 3rd xbox 360. Hopefully my new slim 360 will fare better.

PS my original PS3 60GB launch model still going strong."

"I am withholding "final judgement" until the 3DS is fully functional (by June?). That is not to say that i am not playing with it. I enjoyed the heck out of Rayman 3D (with or without the 3D) but I am really loving Steel Diver! It is definitely the Demons Souls of the launch, in the sense that it is overlooked. The missions are 10 minute bites, perfect for casual and I am hopelessly addicted to the Steel Commander game. Cant wait to play with a friend but sadly dual play is local only but the game really used the 3D for visuals and i dont think it is slow at all. Give it a shot and tell me what you think. Maybe someday we can play steel commander online ;-)"

"the ideal solution IMO, would be to apply free market capitalism to the problem.

Game prices are set at auction, a gamer bids $5 for PilotWings 3D and if Nintendo declines they raise their bid or Ubisoft prices Rayman at $40 and if no one bids they lower the price until people bid.

It certainly would eliminate most if not all the crapware and the good games would still get good prices. Everyone happy.

(and the bitmob game exchange gets its commission...)"

"I am glad i rented this game, the bugs are very annoying, i have one quest in the caverns that i cant finish because when i get to the last battle 2 of my players run out of the area and dont come back and my main player cant perform any actions... I was also disappointed that for a $60 game, and a big bioware franchise, that layouts are so few and repetitive. I am surprised that bioware would take such chances with a profitable franchise, i probably wont even waste my time renting Dragon Age 3 and having said that there is a lot to like about the game but for me the negatives outweigh the positives pretty overwhelmingly."

"I am playing it right now on xbox and while it is fun it is marred with nasty bugs. I had to abandon a long quest (right at the end of course) because the main character stops working in the final big battle of that quest. Then he runs out of the room and runs around the map on his own until i pause game. I can just put down the controller and watch him run around.

waiting for patch before retrying, seems to be a common trend these days with big games..

"Amazon is offering a $20 credit towards a game purchase with their Halo Reach pre-order and guaranteeing release date delivery. Another option to consider.

"@Ed I can't prove this but in a presentation a few months ago, I believe at Columbia Univ, Steve Perlman (CEO) had a slide showing 3 server centers one in Northern Calif, one in Mid-West (sorry don't remember exactly) and one in Arlington, Virginia. I think that the villain is just backhaul capacity and demand. Personally I blame the Vuvuzuelas, I am sure the world cup is causing excess traffic on the we"

"@Nick Understanding the backstory and lineage of a game is like putting the salt and pepper on a steak, it brings out the subtle flavors and generally makes the whole thing taste better.

I am (relatively) new to gaming, starting just 2 or 3 years ago. To sample such a large buffet I am playing through the top ten (MetaCritic  and GameRankings) games for each of the 3 current platforms. It has been a very educational experience and I am not nearly through them all.

Don't forget resources like Wikipedia as well as the resources in the other posts, there is a lot of game related info there and my best advice is to most of all enjoy the ride, life is mostly about the journey, not so much about the destination."

"I have been using OnLive for about a month and although sometimes (mid-day or busy times) it can be laggy, for the most part I have not had lag problems. (disclaimer - I am a late night gamer)

I have been playing Borderlands and Red Faction without incident, I think that the gaming service is acceptable. What i really like is being able to watch other people play in the Arena. It is nice to watch people playing games i am considering playing to check them out and also i pick up different ways to do things in games i am already playing. I think that the "sharing" parts of OnLive are what makes it stand out above a service like GameFly.

FWIW I have a Mac mini connected to a 32" HD TV and am using a corded xbox controller and i have the lowest priced comcast broadband service, I think it is 6-8Mb (in name), I am also about as far from their servers as is allowed (SE FLA) and after about 10pm it sings!"

"I have been using Glyde.com, it basically hooks up buyers and sellers and manages the transactions. It takes a little longer to get your games but so far i have been happy with the service, both buying and selling.

I have GameFly for rentals but their used games are iffy. The were selling one for more than it was new on Amazon and when i emailed them their reply was that they inspected their used disks...?

My experience with GF has been caution on xbox games as those discs seem to be the most scratched up otherwise with the member $5 bonus you can get some good buys there as well.

"Completely agree. My Gadget-Hound side forced me to buy a PSP but my gamer side gave up trying to play anything that required the analog nub. In addition, the PSP (2K) is not comfortable to hold as there is too much crap around the outside edge. I tried a PSP GO and the button placement is much better and overall more comfortable to hold but just too fussy. PS1 games don't look good on either one because of the aspect ratio differences. I regret that Sony produced a jack of all trades / master of none device (actually i only regret buying 2 of them...)

I also mostly use my DSi. It is masterfully designed for its purpose as a gaming device."
