"Locking edits once a story is promoted is a very good idea, as some of us don't have the ability to leave things alone (or in my case, may be too stupid to realize their story has been promoted until they get an email saying otherwise). "

"Ha it's funny how these take on a life of their own. I really enjoyed your story, it's a really unique take on these little communities that gaming can inspire!"

"Chrono Trigger was the first game I ever had a strategy guide for and I always regretted getting rid of it after the fact, if nothing else because of the history I had with it. On page 53 there was a mark on it where my brother wrote in it and I attempted to erase it out. An identation with my brothers name ("Mikey") stubbornly stayed there until it was sold.

A few years ago in a used game store that has all manner of used geek stuff, I found another copy of the guide and compulsively opened it up to page 53 and an erasure mark and "Mikey" stared back at me. I immediately paid the clerk $20 and promised myself I would never let the thing go again. :)"

"Thanks for the promotion Rob, I thought I was going nuts seeing changes in the story yesterday, and now I know why! :)

@Antonio I find myself wondering the same thing, and would love to hear what some of the gaming moms out there have to say about it. If I see anything around these here internetz I'll try and let you know.

I'm glad to see so many people out there that love being a parent, still finding time to play. I would love to get a group together for a "Parents Game Night" or something of that nature, but I fully understand  that would be a hard thing for any of us to commit to. "

"You made a good point to me Jason, specifically the "trojan-horse" method you mentioned. If you look back at consumer electronics products penetration successes, they almost exclusively piggy backed on another product. DVD and Blu-Ray found their markets with the PS2 and PS3 respectively, while motion controls snuck into our houses overnight and found popularity on the back of the Wii. 3D in the home will probably get its greatest boost in sales(if any) when the next generation consoles roll out, similar to how HD proliferated with this generation. "

"Haha John, I'm sure she will understand one day!

I was nervous about the more personal subject matter of this post, I wasn't sure if it had a place here. It's nice to see that there are other people out there struggling to maintain their sense of identity as fathers(and Mothers I should say!) and gamers, especially in a time where we might be told to "grow up".&nbs"

"Cover-based combat rubs me the wrong way also, but for slightly different reasons. My main issue with it has always been the fact that the controls never felt natural to me; I can't tell you how many times I have randomly had my character stick to every imaginable surface on screen (it's like the developers of these games put glue on all the walls).

Mass Effect 2's combat and health system impressed left me feeling rather impressed, but bothered me alot when you started taking extreme amounts of damage and the bloodshot look would take over the screen. Sometimes it would severly hamper my ability to see to fight back and caused more than one unfortunate deaths and restarts. The trend lately to HUD minimalism is something the industry needs to start balancing against functionalism. "

"Thanks for your feedback guys, I really appreciate it. Alex, I too know the "sneak off while everyone is asleep" gambit, some of the only time I've had is when my family is tucked into bed. I think mainly the whole thing is a bit of a lifestyle change and a natural part of life as we grow older. As she gets older I'm sure things will change even more, especially when she's old enough to play Wii with Dad!  "

"One of the major downsides I see to not only getting rid of manuals but the shoddy quality of them is for myself  perceived value. With the advent of mass market downloads of games, sometimes at a cheaper price than retail boxed copies, what am I paying for in the store? My download can't be scratched, get lost or stolen, or even ate by the dog. My retail copy takes up space and has to be stored when obsolete. The only quality I can find personally in store bought games are the packaging and books, such as most of Working Designs games. Sadly that is a time long past. "

"I unfortunately live every month on less than a $1000, though I will admit it is a cheaper rural area.  Funny thing is I played through Spent three times and was only able to stay in the green once. One thing I appreciated about the game though is how well it captures the experience of shuffling arising decisions where there is no right answer. I would love to see more games explore these types of issues, as they show a level of maturity one wouldn't expect a few years ago. "
