"I can only think of a handful of demos that I have played in my lifetime that made me want to go out and buy the game. Usually I have heard or read enough about a game before the demo even hits to know whether I am going to buy it or not.

One of the games that I knew nothing about but, after playing the demo of I had to buy, was Half-Life. And that did exactly what you are talking about. Rather than present just a portion of the game it was its own little setpiece. A wad of weapons, enemies and puzzles was packed into a couple of levels and you were dropped into the middle of it all.

It really set the tone well, and accurately conveyed the gameplay and pace of Half-Life in a neat little package. Best of all, it didn't just stop, but finished on a nice cliffhanger ending (from memory, you break through the bottom of an air duct into a room with a Garg. At the time it was horrifyingly scary!)."

"Didn't Neverwinter Nights have a similar character creation? I have a vague memory of playing a co-op game over LAN, and creating a rather hefty Half-orc female."

"7/10. Though I do have to point out a minor mistake. Shredder is the boss of pre-fly Baxter Stockman. As a human baxter worked for Shredder, but was accidentally turned into a fly-man by Krang once Shredder had no more use for him. I do believe once he was a fly, he was 'his own boss'.

But I understood the intention."

"I played this game over a year ago. To be honest, I was shocked at just how atmospheric and creepy it was. True. the main character design is uninspired, but the rest of the graphics have an excellent and tactile feel to them.

Point and click adventures truly are the genre that just won't die."

"han Drake is a good example of the vocal protagonist, but for me I think the best example of this type of main character has to be Niko Bellic. He character was so well written and acted, it is scary how much I thought of him as a real person. The fact that I thought of him as a real person meant that I invested more in his story, and so was drawn into the game more. It is interesting, because if either the writing was corny or the acting was hammy, then it would not have worked at all. Makes me wonder, is immersion based soley on being able to place yourself in the events, or is it more about connecting with the character you are assuming the rol"

"gree with some of the game choices. Battletoads I agree is hard, but I wouldn't place it so high. I can consistently get up to the 5th level or so, where you have to ride a series of snakes over a pit. Good times. Some games that I think have been overlooked, though. Kid Chameleon. This game ranged from easy to insanely hard. It is compounded by the seemingly endless nature of the game. The levels just keep coming. Cruise For A Corpse. Point and click adventures can vary, but this game was neigh impossible. Personally, it took me almost 5 years to complete. Those French are tricky. Silkworm. I can honestly see no way a sane person could have finished this game. Also, how on earth does a jeep jump without a"
