Cutscenes are sneaky creatures. Really, who would expect to see zombies as an allegory for American soldiers in the happy-go-lucky PSP game, Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman?

The developers of Disgaea strike again with a level-grinding dungeon crawler that feels fresh and fun rather than a tiresome time sucker.

Pokémon Black and White finally fulfill a nostalgia that gamers born in the late ‘80s may find themselves missing -- a franchise that they not only grew up with, but one that grew up with them.

Level 5’s Professor Layton series has striking similarities to Pixar’s animated films. But could Level 5’s “Pixarness” be a key to the future of Japanese games making a comeback?

Episode 63 of Mobcast discussed the lack of a unique voice in the gaming press. In (a somewhat late) response to this episode, I make a short list of non-games writers I'd like to see cover the industry, and then ask YOU to share your picks.

"I don't know why I find this funny, but, in the first picture, I really like how the mustachioed man's head blocks out the "A" of Asteroids and it looks like he's playing "Steroids.""

"@Daniel Tsk tsk on the downloading. Region 2 DVD player ftw \(^o^)/ It is sad we're one of the last countries on the current release list ;_;"

"@Douglas Yes, .//hack has a similar plot, but is much, much less charming than Summer Wars. .//hack seems more oriented toward hardcore anime fans with its heavy amounts of lore (and is a chore to watch), while Summer Wars is something everyone can get into."

"Just wondering where you're seeing the "American" spirit come in? I still see more Japanese influence than American in these designs. (especially the Power Ranger one — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_Rider)

I'm totally digging this generation of Pokemon so far. It's the perfect blend of nostalgic and new.

Also, that blue Pokemon in the karate get-up is a huge pain to catch. I wasted 4 different Pokeballs on him ;_;"

"Sorry to hear about your reviewing gig — it's sad, but gaming on the "other side" isn't is still very possible (just involves buying a lot more used copies and cleaning up during Steam sales ;) ).

My first review copy was Yoshi's Island Super Mario Advance 3 (GBA). It's my goal to get paid for another review in print before the medium completely crumbles."

"So wait. Kirby eats a tomato, which summons a ghost, which eats HIM, which takes him to yarn world, where he becomes yarn AND more adorable than normal. I'm not quite sure I follow, but am OK with the results. ^^

I had to click through like 7 pages to find what system Bastion is for D: Giant Bomb says its for PC and consoles, which is still kinda vague. Anyways, I want to play it  and/or at least want to write about it — looks pretty cool.

Also, you'll definitely want to buy Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. Easily my fave Layton game yet. :)"

""Games are awesome. More people playing games is awesome. Game journalism should be about sharing, not about excluding. Many writers have yet to figure that out."

^^YESYESYES and exactly.

@Jason: How true. Games writing could use more copy editors. Like us :D"
