Owning a PS3 and a 360 can often be a very different experience. One console begs you to play it. Another one tells you "come back in an hour (or two) when I'm done updating". Read on to find the biggest difference between the ownership experience of the two HD consoles.

Dragon Age 2 looks awesome, but it's a bit worrisome, too. Here are three possible concerns about BioWare's upcoming fantasy epic. <!--0873dae9be544766bc1ed4f2a7fd4ce2-->

Games are meant to be won, or so you thought. Turns out that video games are best 'not-lost'. How does winning differ from 'not-losing'? Read to find out!

A brief analysis of the newest ViDoc/trailer "A Spartan Will Rise" for Halo: Reach. This is what jumped out at me--please add what jumped out at you in the comments!

As a huge Gears fan, I've been frustrated with the fact that the game can't figure out what it wants to be--does it want to be a sci-fi/horror shooter or a 'summer blockbuster' game? Especially after playing the first two co-op with my wife, it's the horror aspects where the games really succeed. Too bad those moments are few and far between.

"At the risk of touching off a fanboy/girl debate, Halo: Reach proves you can have co-op maps AND multi-player maps. It just takes more developer resources.

Personally, the absolute FAIL of the netcoding and back-end server lag at launch made me give up on Gears 2's multiplayer. I had too many other games to play to keep checking back. After a couple weeks of patches that STILL didn't fix the problem. . . I gave up."

"@Keith-- I'm mixed about the Berserker, personally, though it was another of those basically unexplained omissions in the sequel (if I remember correctly). I defintely started sweating, and both solo and co-op nearly had my controller thrown through my TV.

@Kyle-- I get the twitch appeal, and while a lot of games have copied parts of the cover system that Gears used (Uncharted and Mass Effect 2 come to mind), no one has yet included all of the moves you can do behind cover--or things like SWAT turns. That--especially in co-op--makes the game really fun to play. It's more in retrospective that the game begins to fall apart (for me). Like I said in the article, though, the third game will make it home sooner or later."

"@Dewan-- I noticed the staff in the trailer. . . after I'd originally written the article. But, as any gamer knows, what can you possibly get out of CGI trailers? Am I the only one who thinks these are getting silly--and useless? The live action stuff for Medal of Honor and Halo: Reach, though, that's a much different animal. I've actually enjoyed those.

@Jason-- If we can go off the original Game Informer reveal, the PC version will be saved from this relentless 'streamlining'. And shaving a little of the 'moving into range' can't hurt, as long as the strategic view/ability to pause and issue commands is kept in place. Heck, even in Mass Effect I like (and need) to pause the action now and then."

"I'm really excited about the sequel--the only negative for me is that it comes out a week--A WEEK--after one of the biggest games this fall (Halo: Reach, for those living under a rock :) ). Going to buy, but coming so soon after Reach may make me wait a bit.

I'm surprised people are complaining about lost value, because I thought there was more than enough gameplay in terms of time and content quality to justify $15. Besides maybe Dragon Age and Red Dead Redemption, DeathSpank is one of my favorites this year."

"I agree with Eddy. All the reviews I've ever written end with the question: having played it, would you do it all again? Similar to the buy/rent/skip scale"

"@Jeffrey-- thanks for the suggestion. Forums are always a huge help, and Bungie has one of the best communities around! In fact, as someone who's a pretty big Halo buff (but nowhere near the nerd-level of some), I almost find the forums overwhelming by the sheer volume of posts."

"@Riley-- totally agree about that line. I'd forgotten about Kalmiya--I've read the books, but it's been a while."

"My wife, who normally plays everything on easy, commented about the lower difficulty about a level or so into the second game. I think a big part of that was just how much more powerful the Hammerburst AR was vs. its equivalent in the first game.

Glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed the first but thought the second was a let down. Are you up for the third?"

"I've still only scratched the surface of the first SC, but the same element can be applied to other games. For example, while I like the addictive unlocks of a Modern Warfare, ultimately I find Halo vastly more fun to play--even when I lose. Because, like you said, every game starts the same way--and players have equal access to all weapons."

"I think the best line in your article is: "the scale with which gaming permeates an individual's life beyond the console." This really makes passion a better-defined concept than hardcore.

Hardcore as a definition is poor--in fact, I've wanted to write an article about casual vs. hardcore but struggled, because hardcore could just as easily describe:

1. someone who loves games (your 'passion') and plays a wide array of genres

2. someone who is entirely devoted to ONE game, e.g. World of Warcraft or Halo 3.

Which, of course, are two very different people. Passionate gamers are also well-rounded, and might even read books based on the games they love so much."
