Where will YOU be when a suit-wearing child visits you in a dream and drops a demon-converting slug into your mouth? Bet you weren't prepared for that type of apocalypse, were you. You know, the giant-fake-sun-wiping-out-humanity-and-perpetual-cycle-of-world-ending-and-being-recreated-and-demons-roaming-the-earth kind.

On the categories we tend to label games with, and how they can potentially diminish the public perception of games that don't adhere to such strict genres.
Ellisandscooter
There can be only one blue trucker-cap wearing, greasy car mechanic redneck in the realm of 4-player co-op first-person shooters released around the same time last year and full of enemies that run straight at you in straight lines.

It doesn't hold a candle to its brilliant successors on the PS2, but even on its own merits, this is just an outdated RPG with very few redeeming qualities.

"Nostalgia" implies that what once was fashionable now feels outdated. Muramasa just proves that these kinds of games never go out of style.

Calling it “the best Guitar Hero yet” probably sounds like sacrilege to the Harmonix-era fans, but even that brand of cynics should give GH5 a fair shake.
Shadowcomplex_walker
While probably not destined to go down as a classic like the games that inspired it, Shadow Complex replicates their formulas admirably in a scaled down, $15 package.

Who needs World of Warcraft when TF2 is just as much of a timesink? Plus I haven't paid a dime since release, so the savings must be upwards of 500% or something.

Instead of saying "Here's a massive world; go build relationships and do chores to make a living," Guerrilla says "Here's a massive world; now blow it to pieces."

The world doesn't feel pre-fabricated for Cole's personal use, so getting to interact with this environment actually makes you feel like the powerful badass that Cole is.
Punch-out-review-0518
Punch-Out!! is not a boxing game (the fighters can't even maneuver around the ring), but as an action/puzzle hybrid where the puzzles are presented as boxing matches, it's pretty fantastic.
Infinite-undiscovery
I haven't abandoned action games (at this rate, I'll be playing Team Fortress 2 until the day I die), but three years ago, you wouldn't have gotten an ounce of enthusiasm out of me for Final Fantasy XIII, and now its one of my most anticipated games. I get it now.

"All I can say is, yes, yes, a thousand times yes.  Those characters affected me in ways I'm not too proud of - I don't make a habit of telling people that I got so attached to a set of imaginary characters that I wished they were real people and never wanted to leave them.  But I guess at some point I learned that it's OK to indulge in fantasies every once in a while.

For the longest time, I heard people say similar things about the Final Fantasy VII cast, and having not played it, I never understood where they were coming from.  I just missed that era of gaming.  But I get it now.  Persona 4 is my FFVII.  I look at that picture - Chie, Kanji, Rise - and a wealth of emotions instantly start flooding back to me.

In other words, Patricia: thanks for saying everything that I wanted to but never had the guts to."

"@Ed: There are a bunch weapons you can earn or find in random drops and can equip in the primary, secondary, and melee slots.  There's at least one alternative for each slot for nearly every class now.  But plenty of those weapons end up being duplicates, so you can choose to smelt those weapons into scrap metal in a seperate menu screen.

What you can make with the metal from there is up to you, crafting 3 refined metals together prodcues a hat for a random class for example.  This explains it all much better: http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Crafting"

"The animated cutscenes and 3D town exploration are sorely missed for sure, but I agree that P3P is a more hassle-free experience and the better version because of it.

Although... I know some people who appreciated the challenge of P3 and FES and found ways to make the game easier for themselves (albeit more time consuming) by spending half of the time in dungeons by themselves, without party members.  Yes it's unfortunate that the AI rarely makes the decisions you would want to and they can end up hurting you more than helping, but if you really like the game, there's nothing wrong with accepting the game's flaws for what they are and chooing to work with them instead of against them.

Also the addition of Skill Cards to P3P (the ability to force Personas to learn specific skills at any time you want) completely undermines the challenge of fusion.  I feel like I should be grateful for getting a Persona to have the exact skills I want being an easier process, but there was something to be said about the sense of accomplishment from spending nearly an hour in the Velvet Room getting your Persona just right, the hard way."

"Technically Super Mario RPG was the first one to put him in that role-reversal, but playing as him in BIS turns him into such an outstanding hilarious character that I never saw him as an all-bark-no-bite pushover again.

And Mario's got other arch-villains like Count Bleck (Super Paper Mario), the Smithys (Mario RPG) and Fawful (Mario & Luigi series), so there's plenty of opportunity to give Bowser a break from his usual duties."

Not that I'm into that or anything."
