I have played many JRPGs and Western RPGs over the course of my gaming years; as such, it remains a mystery to me that JRPGs have learned so little from their Western counterparts. Now Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies has arrived and this time it seems that JRPGs have finally learned a thing or two from the Western RPG.

Back in the summer of 2006 Capcom released a brand new IP titled Dead Rising. It was a brand new take on the zombie style video game, from the developer who basically started the entire zombie video game craze with the Resident Evil franchise. Unlike Resident Evil, Dead Rising was a much more comical, laid back take on the idea of a zombie outbreak

Madden has been the reining king in the video game football arena but its brand of football is getting a little stale and sports gaming is in need of a revolution. Does Backbreaker have what it takes to play with the big boys or does it need to take a seat on the bench?

These are the Best Trailers of the Year, thus far. I know everyone usually has a yearly award for this kind of thing, but with E3 steadily approaching and the fact that we have been having a second holiday release season of sorts in the beginning of the year, I figured I'd change things up a bit. Check them out:

"Completely agree. The PS3 is just hitting its stride and everything seems to be working in their favor. A new system, one which I don't think anyone wants or is ready for, would be very silly. Of course, as you stated, Sony has made mistakes and I wouldn't put it past them to make the biggest mistake in their companies history...minus the little PSN disaster. Here's hoping your source, as credible as he/she might be, is entirely wrong and that Sony is just trying to mess with our minds and Nintendos/Microsofts."

"While I love me some NCAA football, I can't deny the feeling that playing with an NFL team gives me. Getting to play as the pros that we all admire is truly an experience that I think so few games allow you to have. I personally am a Green Bay fan and Madden gives me the ability to go out everyday and play as my favorite team. I can take them all the way to the Super Bowl and win it all, even if they don't in real life. Madden gives me that extra connection to a team that I am so dearly devoted too and that's why I choose Madden over NCAA."

"Hey Tim,
I completely agree with you. While the customization in DQ9 is great, the story definitely does take a hit. You never quite feel connected to your party because none of them have their own unique personalities or stories. I know developers will eventually get it right, it just takes time."

"Frank Costello: When you decide to be something, you can be it. That's what they don't tell you in the church. When I was your age they would say we can become cops, or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference? (The Departed)"

"I understand where each of you are coming from, however, in my opinion character customization is very important for RPGs. I personally feel that it gets you further invested in the story and the game, when you actually create your character. Granted character customization isn't the only factor that goes into making a more immersive RPG but it is one of the best examples."

"Fair enough, though the issue with any of the gears characters, or unreal characters is that they don't have any specific moments that I could find. Believe me I looked. Marcus ended up on the cutting room floor. But he could return in another Top 5 down the line."
