"toby, while i can see the concept of your idea being very sound i feel it would not cater to the more mainstream of gamers say for example modern warfare2 was made into a novel the vast majority of the fanbase would think 'i just played this game and understood the story fairly well. Why should i spend £5 to read what i just played' There does exist novels, lore and sidestories but they are for the hardcore fanbase of franchises generally. Rpgs are the closest to reading that most gamers do i occasionally indulge in the odd novel but when im finished and i like the book i get this real empty satisfaction that people dont know what they are missing thos should be a movie or a game. I like your concept but the games story line would have to be worth the novel which doesnt tend to happen with modern games, no one says; hey have you heard about this new game it has an amazing story line, they like hearing 'the graphix are awwwwsome!' when games used to about the story breath of fire series, secret of mana snes, and alundra1 ps1 are among my favourite the novel would be justfied because a novel can paint a more vivd image than a 32bit console ever really"

"bryan, first off allow me to thank you for a very well informed post it was quite enjoyable. To read as i to recently quit wow dodged aion because i played the beta and thought it was a reskinned wow hey but if u cant beat em mite aswell join em rite? Anyway i to have discovered the joys of what i have missed in the past few years such as fallout 3 bioshock etc. I agree with what your saying tho piracy can be quit aggrivating take this for example... Several weeks ago i see advertisments for a game called borderlands, i peeks my curiosity so i read into it online and i gather that it is a nice blend of diablo based weapons and linear quest line mixed with a nice xiii cell shade fps, how could this go wrong?! Well it did... I rushed to the steam store and through my £24.99 at them preloaded and waited for the release date very eagerly, whilst sitting on ventrillo a friend says i got it today in gamestop playing it now so this ws the first minor twinge with the game but not the biggest, fair enough i thought i could have got it but i chose the lazy option next thing i hear is 'lol im downloading it via torrent, from another, im thinking to myself yeah a cd key will stop you in your tracks right there apparently not as 2k thought cd keys were for chumps... Well it was beginning to get more frustrating by the hour but allow me to wrap this up with the cherry on the cake right here when i did finally get the game i have to forwarx ports in order to play online when the pirates who get it for nothing before i did just host and its setup but to draw away from a rant its not only the pc thats suffered to piracy, the recent xbox flashing trend to get xheap game was just brought to a screeching halt by a massive ban wave anyone i know how had a flashed xbox is feeling pretty sore right now but if you are willing to play with fire irs only a matter of time before you get"

"toby, i often find that it is not always to do with the public outcry that a game or for that matter movies aswell are banned from a country. I feel that it has alot to do with the government not wanting their country looking bad, let me clarify the angle i am working from, this no russian hot topic as of late, i know a few russian people i asked their opinion on the matter and they more or less said 'its just a game based on fictional events it does not depict the russians as evil just one fictional terrorist, it could have been the truth for any other country and besides i was asked at thestart of the game to skip offensive content' taking this point on board it made me think that we cant ever involve politics with games as it is never anything postive i would play a game even if i had to kill my own race the point being i know its just a game.... A string of 1's and 0's will not have me think diff"

"aylon, just read through you post and cant help but think that at times i find myself in a somewhat similar position with reguards to real life clashing with gaming intrests although i do not write for any magazine and thus do not find myself under any specific pressure to get through a game i find that rpgs do tend to take up alot of time to get through and if you are a fan of a particular brand of rpg then you will feel more compelled to play through if it was some particular form of advice you were seeking and the question at the end was not rehtorical then i think you should perhaps make a sheduale for when you can and cannot play and make it as flexible as possible around your girlfriend, say monday tuesday wednesday you get your hour in before feelings start to turn sour then fridau saturdqy sunday providing that nothing social is happening then you could play maybe. 2-3 hours more tbh she seems pretty reasonable to give you 6 hours to try and power through borderlands and if she understands your passion then it shouldnt be a problem to give you the time you need. When you boil it all down everything is about give and take it shouldnt be you who has to sacrifice what you want to do all of the time as you said yourself giving it up would destroy yoi thats just my spin on things take it whAtever way you want and"
