"I enjoyed reading your article. Did not know what to expect at first but was very pleasantly surprised. I think it's one thing to hear Roger Ebert talk about something he doesn't understand and quite another when someone from the industry voices an opinion on the merits of video games as a form of art. I'll always be of the opinion that games are art. From the small ones to the AAA ones because it's a personal definition we attribute to it. Someone who only reads Harlequin romance novels could very well believe them to be art. Are they less entitled to their definition because they've never picked up Frank Herbert, Sylvia Plath, Dostoevsky? Becoming elitist is a problem. Art, to me, is something that moves the soul and we each feel differently. So I can understand how some will want to perceive games as more, less or not art. However, I can see why you felt the need to respond to Mr Goldstein's article. "

"My, my, DX:HR does have its flaws but the game is so compelling. I`ve not been able to put it down. I do agree that the boss you are referring to is frustrating. A bit like the whole hacking process, which is very random. But I managed to gain the upper hand on the boss, and discovered I could save during the fight. It made the whole affair easier. I also feel at a total loss when it comes to upgrading my character, stressing at what might come next. I keep praxis points in reserve in case I encounter something which will require a specific skill. But damn I've regretted some decisions."

"28 weeks later, I preferred it to the original since it felt more intense, especially the intro and the transformation by Robert Carlyle. @reno_oliveira"

"I think to start off games have a bad rep. I see a lot of gamers who play a lot more than what they pretend to. Before it was a matter of pretending you didn't even touch games. Now people are more open about it, they do play, but then it's an immediate "Oh but I don't really have the time". Then I see them pop up on Xbox Live or PSN to play games a lot more than I even do. It's this "gaming shame" that I can't stand. I think people correlate "having time" with "being a loser". My girlfriend is very understanding about how much gaming means to me. So if you have a partner that undermines it (which I see all the time), you lose touch with it because you want to adapt.

As I read your comments I recognize myself in them. I simply can't put down 70+ hours on an RPG anymore because I know other games will be coming out by the time I even get half way through. It's because I get to play in smaller sessions of about 1 hour or 2. Gone are the days I could just sit all day long and level up Cecil or Sabin into gods. So it's hard to appreciate games like Oblivion which an hour is not enough to accomplish anything. So when I game I want to get the feeling that I've done something. So it's down to shooters, action, platformers. Anything that is a quick pick up and put down. But believe you me, when Skyrim comes out, I'm taking a day off and working things around so that I can play the shit out of it."

"I'm really disappointed in Nintendo and with every decision they only dig a deeper hole. It is almost as though they don't understand their fans. They feed us what they think we want. It's been a long time I ever wanted to play a game as much as Xenoblade. I think this is how euro fans usually are treated, ever since back in the SNES days. They usually got the bad end of the stick. I guess now we get a bit of that taste. Honestly I don't understand Nintendo's reasoning for this slap in the face to fans. "

"I think it's great you're talking about game composers. Although they do get their share of popularity in Japan, they should be given more time in the spotlight everywhere else in the world. I've been a supporter of game soundtracks for almost as long as I've been gaming. The frustration you feel is the same I felt when I first heard Uematsu's or Mitsuda's work way back when. These artists make truly amazing music but outside of Japan people could care less.

This is only constructive criticism here but I feel your article isn't really tackling anything particularly new or very interesting. What you're talking about is what we've all been dealing with for years and although you just recently picked up on it, it doesn't make it as new or fresh as you might think. You could've really pushed this article more and gone the extra mile to show how the industry is changing. There are more readily available soundtrack for us to buy at affordable prices and how it is slowly getting it's time in the spotlight as with Civilization's IV grammy award. All in all though, I hear ya man and I feel ya."

"Great article (and the back and forth it brought up from people) but I certainly enjoyed the points you bring up in this reply. :D"

"Awesome stuff... I almost felt alone but to see it written down by someone else really puts it into perspective. How much time have I wasted wondering what to play next. I stare at a pile of games and simply can't make up my mind because I feel like I'm missing out. I still have Bulletstorm, Call of Duty Black Ops, Fallout New Vegas etc. etc. etc.  to get through. You get my point... What has managed to get my attention though is Shadows of the Damned!"

"Honestly I have no idea how I managed to play the classics way back when I judged the games by their covers. I still did though so I'm glad my tiny superficial ass managed to come through."

"Nice article! Your points make a lot of sense too. Specifically in regards to the gameplay evolution. Nevertheless I completely disagree. I never got it with TP. It's an adventure I have very little interest in revisiting. For me anyways, I have no memorable moments. So yes I come from the old school of Link to the Past, Link's awakening etc. So yes there is nostalgia there. But I wouldn't dismiss a game just because it doesn't follow a specific bluprint set by all those classics. I'm all for innovation and being gutsy. So I finished TP. But it left me with nothing. So I guess the journey for me just wasn't that interesting."
