"There's nothing really wrong with having a silent protagonist. After all it makes no difference when gameplay is concerned. Even if Link expressed his true love for Zelda in the most romantic of speeches, it wont make tracking down all the missing heart pieces any easier. Sure it would probably make for a much better Zelda story, but that's not what Zelda is about.

I don't think having a silent protaganist is lazy on the developers part or anything. It just lets me know the developers were more concered about the gameplay than the story. This isn't a bad thing, even for RPG's. A terrible game with great story is still a terrible game."

"Good read. Interestingly enough, I got around to reading opinions on Other M after I 100% cleared the game. I was a bit shocked to see how negative this game was recieved, considering how much I enjoyed it. To each his own I guess."

"That was a good read!

I'm really looking forward to playing this game. I would of bought it for the job system alone honestly. Thanks for making me aware of its other innovative features."

"@Ed "But how is it like Zelda?"

Not much. Ys Seven's gameplay is mostly centered around fast pace hack and slash combat. Where Zelda's emphasis is on puzzles designed to make clever use of your equipment.

Personally I enjoy both styles."

"When developing Other M the developers had to make a decision about how they were going to handle power up acquisition this time around. Instead of searching them out like in every other game, they decided Samus would just have all of them from the start, and activate the more powerful abilities as needed. This is where gamers' suspension of disbelief came to a crashing hault.

Why doesn't she simply have all of her power ups activated all the time?

...And it snowballs from there, ending with stuff like "the game is sexist, worst metroid ever, ruined the character etc". I get it. And the scene with Ridley is the video game equivalent of the fridge scene in the Indiana Jones film. People are so cynical about this game they never talk about it's good moments.

Did anyone care or notice at least one boss from every 2D Metroid makes an appearance in the game? It's such an awesome experience seeing (and fighting) these guys again in 3D. Whether or not you believe Other M is sexist really doesn't matter when you look at the big picture -- It's a solid and fun third person entry in the Metroid series."

""Metroid: Other M is catching critical flak may be that it turns Samus into a woman who requires male approval or permission to act strongly"

Samus simply follows Adam's orders out of respect for her former commander, not because she has to or forced to. She certainly didn't have to follow his orders -- she made the decision to do that herself.  There were instances where she activated her powers without Adam's consent anyway -- Samus was still in control here. Did everyone fall asleep during the scenes where Samus explains why Adam is the only person she trusts with her life? I guess so..."

"I don't understand where all this "auto battle the whole time" bit is coming from. For those have actually finished the game, they know that against the game's tougher foes, eidolons and bosses, spamming auto-battle without forming any kind of strategy is a sure fire way of getting yourself killed.

For me, the best parts of the game are finding ways to defeat the games high marks quickly to earn a five star rating. It requires a lot of pre-planning and strategy than most people might think."

"I just recently ran through this entire game again and earned a 102% for the first time. It's amazing how the game and the music stack up even today."

"Game reviews are unreliable for me. Most of the time they mearly scratch the surface on what a game offers or over exaggerate certain "flaws". A good example is Castlevania Harmony of Despair. It's no masterpiece, but when I completed the game, I realized it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it's reviews would of led me to believe."

"By the end of the game none of the enemies should be a threat to Samus. The Screw Attack is just as powerful as ever, and you can instantly fire a charged beam with a successful dodge repeatedly. I felt just as empowered as any other Metroid game. Yeah it's kinda silly that Samus doesn't use these powers from the get go, but then again how the heck is she steering herself while she's tucked in a little sphere? I'll give the game the benefit of the doubt because I enjoyed playing it."

"The only real problem I had with Castlevania HD is that players can't jump into a game session thats already begun. Other than that, I quite enjoyed it. My favorite character is Charlotte because of the huge variety of enemy attacks she can use."
