Zombies
We can't deny that zombies in games is a tired concept, but their portrayal is actually quite diverse.

Was it a bad decision for BioWare to make Mass Effect 2 a suicide mission when there's still a sequel on the way?

How Ubisoft Montreal's transformation of Splinter Cell: Conviction can improve the Assassin's Creed series.

Grand Theft Auto IV is one of the highest rated games of all times, receiving over 50 perfect scores. I recently returned to the game to find that it's not all that perfect.

"Congrats on the front page promotion, Parker! You definitely deserve it! Your vivid, colorful descriptions truly make video games sound like art. The next time another Roger Ebert "games aren't art" controversy erupts, I'll be sure to direct them to your writing. Keep up the great work."

"I think I've found a better way to describe what exactly I'm feeling. I know for a fact that Shepard definitely isn't screwed because I've survived every time. But the whole scenario of taking the battle to the enemy's home, being incredibly outnumbered, and narrowly escaping death by way of a slow-motion, cinematic leap feels like something that should close the trilogy. You know what they say: You're always more critical of the things you love, and that's certainly the case here."

"My focus is completely on the fact that BioWare openly refers to it as a suicide mission. Mass Effect is seriously my favorite series of all time; my only qualm with the second game is that I find it ridiculous that Shepard can die in the MIDDLE of the trilogy. If ME2's storyline is the suicide mission, then frankly, I think it's going to either A) overshadow the story in ME3 since they've already survived a suicide mission, or B) be cheesy if BioWare tries to play off ME2's suicide mission like, "If you thought that was bad, then check THIS out!""

""If you have to play a 3 minute ad for Squarespace.com, you can do it without sacrificing showtime."

Another Revision 3 fan? :P

I love podcasts, and I completely agree with your reasons why. In my group of friends, there is only one that I can talk gaming with, but it's still not really in-depth. When I'm listening to a podcast, I actually get to have that experience (sort of)."

"Jeez, the way he's playing, it doesn't even look like Tetris anymore. When the game speeds up, it seems impossible that someone could actually be controlling the blocks. But when he got to the invisible blocks, my brain turned into pudding."

"Nick, I loved this article. Probably because I'm in the same boat as you. PC gaming just never seemed appealing to me -- except for the Steam sales that Jason mentioned. Also, you get a huge plus for posting a picture Kramer, accompanied by a classic quote."

"Gary, I agree with your opinion that the game is simply too long, which, in turn, makes the gameplay feel repetitive. The game is definitely overrated, but I still had a blast with it. Had Rockstar stripped away the boring cattle/ranch missions, I could get behind the higher review scores."

"Unfortunately, I'm in the SD only camp. Being a high school student, I don't really have the ability to purchase a quality HDTV. My family has two HDTVs, one in our living room and another in a den, but I play all of my games in my bedroom. One horrible SD experience I've had is with GTA 4's cell phone. I could never make out what any of the messages or names were, so I had to scoot up close and squirt really hard. It's rough being an SD guy."

"This was quite an amusing and intelligent story, Mitch. Good luck with your future writing gig! It's funny that the companies that are making these "badvertisements" are the ones that are losing in their respective competitions. Saints Row sold nothing compared to GTA; Mario Kart's sales would completely roll over Blur; and I'm assuming the iTunes App Store is blowing the PSP's digital sales out of the water."

"Exactly. To me, it seems backwards that these strong, agile characters who are usually on the offensive would resort to blocking or hauling tail. AC2's counterattacks are time-consuming and quickly grow old, whereas Arkham Asylum allows the player to actively take down foes with no shortage of stylish moves."

"Wow! I don't know how I didn't think of Arkham Asylum's combat system. Richard, everything you said was right on the money. When I was playing it, I was amazed how such a simple system could make you feel like such a badass. I think if Ezio had a similar fighting style -- while still allowing the above people to play their quiet but deadly method -- the combat and pacing of the game would be much more fluid."

"I think you're taking the Assassin's Creed to Splinter Cell comparison too literally. My main point was that Ubisoft took a stealth-based character and made stealth based gameplay more advantageous to the player. Previous Splinter Cell games limited Sam Fisher's abilities when he was hiding in the shadows facing multiple enemies. I'm not saying that Assassin's Creed show suddenly implement a mark and execute feature, but like Sam Fisher, they should give a future protagonist the skills to quietly kill a small group of guards and navigate rooftops without being investigated or detected every 15 seconds. I'm not saying that the game should force you to play this way, but it should leave the choice of approach up to the player.

Also, I do appreciate the feedback, despite our differing opinions. :)"
