"hink it would be awesome if an only-one-in-the-world limited edition like the Uncharted 2 Collector's Box was released with the intention of being stolen in some sort of sick life-imitating-art-imitating-life geocache-esque bit of self-perpetuating thi"

"here because of the Mobcast. That's a damned fine podcast you put out, and for me it has filled for me a vacuum that's existed since Garnett Lee and John Davison stopped doing a podcast together. Good, solid, prepared ideas brought to the table and discussed amongst the participants like adults. Highly enjoyable.
I follow the RSS feed for the site because interesting stuff tends to poke up that makes me think. (And you do a pretty good job of carving out a useful bite-sized slice of the videos and gaming news from the past week,"

"nk, the point of having a scale, even if nobody uses the bottom end, is to have a relative point of comparison. Arguing that more of the scale should be used is no different than taking the current scale and making it out of 100 instead of 10. You're just adding gradations.
That having been said, I really like the current 1Up scale, because it tells me at a glance what type of gamer it's for (genre-only fans? everyone? ambulance chasers?), and whether I'll like it. Beats every other rating system I've seen by far. I just wish some of my fave writers were still there. A group of reviews by a set of writer personalities was always much more interesting than a 'definitive' single r"

"real problem for me is finding the motivation to return to a game after I've sunk around 10 hours into it. As Rob alluded to, making these longer games episodic would help a lot. My reasoning is that in order for people to be able to pick up a game again, they need to get some positive feedback that they're making progress in the game. With these larger games, particularly open-world ones, positive feedback often doesn't happen until the game's over. It can be incredibly frustrating to go back to a game and have to go.. "now what was it I was doing again?"
One of the best game series to address this in recent time has been the Professor Layton series. If you look at how that game is structured, you can come back to it at any time, and you'll get a well written and most importantly, motivating recap of events. It's probably the best compromise I can think of for situations like this. It establishes a short-term goal, lays out your long-term goals for you, and the fact that it's there reassures you that you don't have to remember every single little bit of what's going on. I greatly appreciate this little feature.
If more JRPGs had a setup like this, I think I'd play more of them. As it stands, I'm considering waiting until FFXIII hits the bargain bin before picking it up. After all, I'm barely half-way through XII.. doing.. somet"
