Digital media robs consumers of the most fundamental of property rights: what’s mine is mine. For publishers, it’s win-win: reduced overhead, no first-sale doctrine, and a dead secondary market. For consumers, it’s a Faustian bargain: convenience in exchange for the forfeiture of ownership rights.

Damn this economic recession. Spending power is down and belts are tightened. And still there are idiots that spend frivolously. I am one of those poor Steam idiots. This is my sale tale.

Steam's Summer Sale has arrived, already having made a dent in my wallet. While I love the opportunity to pick up games for a fraction of the retail price, I've come to fear Valve's circus of value. Do you have the stomach for nearly two weeks-worth of unbeatable value?

I am not one to even try a tactics type of game because for me they are complicated. However, for awhile on steam there was this game nagging at me with witty humor, foolishness that should not work and an elegance many would over look. Alright, so it's just the UK, but still. I'm only here for a few months, but I've run into my fair share of difficulties trying to keep up on my gaming habit. It's strange to say, given that gaming is a habit some people struggle to break, but the less games are a part of my life, the less I feel like myself.

Multiplayer games can't seem to hold my attention for too long unless they have some sort of unlock and rank system, for stat whoring. Yet there are exceptions, and Team Fortress 2 is one of them. It's still being played Heavy-ly and updated by the developers three years after release. This is the chronicle of my first fifty hours of play.

Some people seem to think the success of Steam on the PC will directly transfer to the Mac platform, revitalizing Mac gaming. Unfortunately, it isn’t this simple. The Mac gaming market is a very different beast to its PC counterpart, and Steam may find an uphill battle in this world.
Here’s why.
