""Fourth gen"? I think there were a few more generations before the Playstation folks."

"Bioware games in particular I have always very much custimized based on whatever back story I made up.  For example, in the Old Republic, my main is a female Sith Sith Juggernaught.  Why?  Because the Sith look badass to start with, and I was intrigiued by the idea of my Sith being "pure".  She is female because I was amused by the idea of this lith female being this heavy hitting "tank" that can take a beating.  I also made a Jedi Consoluer based on my daughter, and a Fat, black bounty hunter with a heart of gold.  Makes the game more interesting that way.  I'm boring."

"Once again, Nintendo just gives 30% of thier potential audience the shaft by releasing a game that is near unplayable (or significantly less enjoyable) by a left handed player.  I remember playing MP: Hunters and the "buttons as a d-pad"  thing just does not work."

"Gamers can really be stupid sometimes.  Does anyone feel "betrayed" by thier TV providor because both Game of Thrones and iCarly come out of the same box?  Also a game doesn't need to be a new franchise to be innovative.  Super Mario Galaxy is a prime example of that.  That game was a challenging, unique platformer that did tons to move the genre forward and play to the strengths of the system.  Would you folks feel it was better if they changed the hero and character models to some other random characters instead of Mario and Goombas?"

"Actually, in my experience with Xbox Live, with indie games and/or rock band songs being as low as a dollar, I can usually use up everything.  The more interesting question in that case is whether I would buy as much crap if I didn't have the "spare change" sitting in my account.  :) Of course I could buy nothing, but hey I'm a gamer and there will be at least that one title I just have to have, so I'll give in and do it.  I don't have to like it though."

"Don't get me wrong.  Using real money is a plus.  However in this case, I'm even more concerned that they are only allowing you to purchase money (see how ridiculous that sounds already) in increments of five, while all prices end in $.99.  Therefore, I will have to make 200 seperate purchaces to use up all the money I put into the system, while Nintendo puts those millions of extra pennies from their users in the bank and earn millions in interest.  Remember the plot of Office Space?  Even with Microsoft points, it is reasonably possible to spend down to a zero balance."

"Personally, I disagree with the store not storing my info as a positive thing.  If my info is compromised and there are unauthorized charges, I call my bank and they go away, I get a new card, and life goes on.  Inconvienient, but not a tragedy.  They only time I've ever had problems of that nature is when my physical card was taken.

I will be far less likely to make a purchase if everytime I add cash, I have to enter my number, expiration, address, etc.  I hate this about Nintendo's current store.  Apple, Sony, Steam, and Microsoft all make it easy for me to make a quick purchase on a whim, and I think that goes a long way towards those marketplaces being far more successful than Nintendo's.

Also, I can't sypathize to much for people who cant translate 100 points to $1.00.  That was one thing Nintendo had over Microsoft whose point system actually is confusing and I believe deliberatly makes it prices look lower than they are."

"Interesting ideas, but I have to mostly disagree that this will happen anytime soon, or should.  A movie is a movie, is a movie.  Same for music. Therefore, you are right that consumers just want to be able to enjoy thier media.   However, how many generations of technology have these media gone through in thier entire lifetime?  How many competitors in each generation?  BetaMax vs. VHS.  8-Track vs. Cassette.  Home movies as we know them have had about 3 generations including the BetaMax / VHS days.  Music has had about 3 or 4 (if you count MP3 as a "new" gereration) since vinal.  How many generations have games had in just the last 20 to 30 years?  I count about 6 in such a short span of time.

The hardware capabilities and consumers' desire for the next best thing is still growing rapidly, and I think it is just far too soon to settle for a standard.  Doing so, I fear, would stiffle the innovation of the industry.  Until we get to holodeck levels of realistic experiences, people are going to be hungry for more and will not settle for one standard of gaming.  We would still be having console wars every 5 years or so.  There would be a tecnology breakthrough and manufaturers would again be releasing proprietary machines trying to get thier format to be the new standard, Just like Sony and Toshiba did with HD.  Remember how many people were pissed when hi-def came along because they had just spent fortunes buying thier DVD collections.  Who knew that so soon we would have a new tecnology that was so much better when we were still being blown away by DVD in many cases.  It was too soon.

This kind of standard would make console gaming like PC gaming.  I may own a PC running windows, but unless I have put a butt-load of money put into my machine, I'm not going to be playing Crysis as it is intended or possibly not at all.  Console gamers do not want this.  It's why the PC market is not as mainstream as consoles, and why a one console future is just that.   Far in the future."
