Mostly a rant, but my discontent with Nintendo's new direction with the reveal of the 3DS

After playing through Metroid Other M, and reading through Sakamoto's comments, I feel the Metroid series is going to fall apart.

"Sonic 3 & Knuckles to me was the absolute best of the series. Sonic CD's music was "okay" for me, I don't know why people think the Japanese version is so much better, to me, it's annoying. The only reason they bring it up, is because it's japanese, therefore it must be better. That doesn't work all the time guys, even though I tend to like Japanese box art in some games better than others.

Sonic 4 was a iPhone game ported to everything else. If you research it carefully, it makes sense. The Minecart level and some other level was lamblasted. Poof it was gone from the console editions. But lo and behold, it's in the iPhone edition as "exclusive levels". Sonic 4 was also a test to see if people wanted a 2D Sonic game, why else are we getting Sonic Generations?"

"Looks like Tomb Raider: Other M to me."

"My parents just recently gave me their PC, and having tooled around with it, I maybe converting to just strictly PC gaming. I haven't even touched my Xbox 360 in like 2 or 3 Days. I haven't really dove into any major games besides Team Fortres 2, but I can easily say I'm enjoying it. And I just might give up on console gaming..."

"ason: Don't discredit that audience. Everybody acts that they don't have a brain or flighty to the next newest thing. If you keep making compelling software, people will keep coming. The hardcore are not a dependable group to rely on. In fact, most of them are everything they say the casual audience is. I won't be surprised to see Nintendo wind up in last place come next generation. Then again, maybe Nintendo wants that, so they can do whatever they want, and be the "love" of the hardcore"

", Iwata is so full of it. The Wii's fateful decline is NOT because of internal advertising. Remember the "Wii would like to play ads?" those were perfect. Nintendo screwed themselves the minute they started going back to making "Gamecube" like games like Other M and Mario Galaxy. People love 2D Mario, NSMB Wii proves that there IS a market for it, bigger than 3D Mario games. But Nintendo refuses to acknowledge that. They're pissing people off with the 3DS, now they ARE with "Project"

"ple didn't buy Mario Galaxy for the same reason they didn't buy Mario 64 in droves: they simply don't like 3D Mario, it's not a true Mario game to them. That's why NSMB Wii sold like crazy, not the simplicity, but because 2D Mario is a much better format. If Nintendo DOES release a new console, I'll be disappointed. The reason being that I already know that they'll go the "Gamecube" path all over"

"I type this on my iPod touch, I praise your defense, even though I completely disagree on some points. In regards to the game journos post release thoughts, it was E3, the giant colorful expo that blinds people's perception on games, not a good environment for sound judgement. The DS had an abysmal launch, but many factors changed it. Brain Age, Nintendogs, Mario Kart, and the one game that stayed on the top sellers list for 4 years, New Super Mario Bros. Developers that actually wanted to be creative made games for it that simply couldn't be replicated anywhere else. Now on to the 3Ds. While I concede that launch games on any system never are truly great, I have to say, having been this far in game making, GOOD launch titles are a must. It makes a purchase feel justified. 3D, as much as Hollywood is shoving it at consumers, can't seem to make the content worth the higher price of admission, that's just my opinion. But I don't think I'm too far off considering that 3D tbs aren't exactly flying off shelves. The Battery Life. I still cannot support a short life span on a NINTENDO handheld. The battery life being long is a necessity for their handhelds. It seems that Nintendo was more than willing to forego this in favor of their 3D obsession. tldr, I know. But seriously, I will play the waiting game with the 3DS, a year or two, opinions could drastically change, especially with the right games"

"For a handheld touted as being SOOOO innovative, it would have better sales, don't you think?

Nintendo screwed up again, I honestly see this thing being the Virtual Boy 2, in terms of success..."

Honestly, I don't really care if Nintendo announces a new system. They royally screwed up with the Wii. And not because of lack of a hard drive (well, that's a negative), or HD. But because they proclaimed they were determined to "bridge the gap" between the disinterested, and the average gamer, and then failed to live up to that. The Wii felt fresh, exciting even. I really can't recall ever getting that great of enjoyment from the Gamecube, or from any other console at the time. And it was the same with the DS after it was out for a year or two. For some, it was like the NES all over again. They had a great grasp on the Blue Ocean Strategy, and then, not a few years later, dump it to go and do whatever they feel like.

I know I'm going to piss plenty of people off, I'm sorry, but Mario Galaxy 2 was the biggest rip off. That game seriously could have been an expansion pack for the first game. Sure, the hub world was more streamlined, and it was more challenging, but that was it. Maybe it's because after playing NSMB Wii, I now prefer 2D Mario over the 3D games. Don't even get me started on the trash that Other M was.

I genuinely enjoyed games like Wii Sports and Wii Play, in addition to games like Metroid Prime Trilogy, NSMB Wii. Heat seeker and Trauma Center. But once again, they're going back to the old adage, "We're Nintendo! People will ALWAYS play our games!" Ever since Other M, I've had a genuine distaste with Nintendo, and even further with trying out the 3DS.

The Wii was the first system I ever bought, period. Had it reserved on launch day, yadda yadda. I think I'll wait it out for their next console, because it'll take more than just another Zelda: Another imitation of Ocarina in HD, or a Mario: Collect all the Stars AGAIN in HD to get my interest. Lord knows half the 3rd Party companies quit trying to put out decent games after a few years a Nintendo system is out.
