"Probably none of my business, but Shawn, why didn't you just contact Mark privately? What's the point of derailing conversation on a completely unrelated article?"

"This is like that study that claimed Facebook was responsible for some divorces because a certain percentage of divorces involved people who hooked up with others after talking to them on Facebook. Even if there was a correlation between Facebook use and divorce, it doesn't mean Facebook was responsible. The kind of people who start potential affairs on Facebook may be the kind of people who would do that through other means if Facebook wasn't there. Likewise, the kind of person that would let videogames get in the way of their marriage may just have the kind of addictive personality that would allow it to happen with any hobby. On the other hand, the kind of people who cite videogames as something that takes up too much of their partner's time may just be batshit insane people who would blame the first obvious scapegoat for the fact that they demand too much attention. The videogame study really doesn't even show a correlation in the general population, much less the causality of marriage problems."

"This is pretty awful, but to be fair I can't say I'm surprised at all or that anyone should be in the first place. Fox News knows that at least a large portion of their audience will just listen to the guy who's ranting and attempting to obscure the truth, rather than the guy who says something valid."

"I just want to say that if you're going to make the claim that instances like the fight with Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts are difficult because the designers gave him an absurd amount of health, you should be prepared to defend the demise of health bars altogether. A game is always going to be difficult to someone simply due to the fact that their health bar is only so big, or the enemy's is too big. Extend the player's enough and anyone can beat any game as long as they've at least figured out how to damage their enemy. Even though you may have never had trouble with some of the boss fights in Wind Waker, I guarantee there's someone out there who did, and you could blame that failure on the same arbitrary difficulty present in the Kingdom Hearts example.

I'm not saying developers shouldn't strive to create challenging situations by using engaging gameplay mechanics rather than just beefing up opponents or making the player a weakling, but as long as health exists as more than a binary value, what you're opposing in that example is always going to exist to some degree."

"You really have to decide for yourself whether or not you're ashamed enough of something to hide it from girls. But do you really want to date someone who thinks less of you because you play video games? I will never understand people who put up with partners that view a hobby of theirs as childish. No one deserves that and I don't understand how anyone can be happy in that situation. If these are just random hook-ups you're looking for, then you definitely shouldn't be surprised by the fact that getting rid of videogame posters might help you. In that situation, there's a lot more obscuring your own personality that probably needs to happen besides hiding one of your hobbies.

On the other hand, apartments/rooms/houses covered in videogame posters and other such nerdy things can be a little weird. It's as crazy as covering your house in sports-related items. Just because you shouldn't be ashamed about the things you enjoy in life doesn't mean you need to appear to obsess over them. My girlfriend plays quite a few videogames, but if we ever live under the same roof, I don't think she would be very thrilled if I insisted on decorating the entire apartment/house in videogame posters."

"I probably shouldn't at this point, but I always find it crazy how much people have complained about not being able to play online. It's never been more apparent than now that single player games or the single player component of a game may not be as important to most people as it is to me. The downtime has only affected me in that I couldn't watch Netflix on my PS3. Otherwise, I was just playing a lot of Fallout: New Vegas."

"I never would have picked the Mario games as a target for accusations of sexism, probably because I ignore the "excuse for gameplay" stories in those games and just take it for granted that you're going to be rescuing Peach. Maybe that's the worst kind of sexism, though. The kind that no one notices because it's just expected. "

"Everytime I read these I wonder how much time it took you to compile all this information. Unless someone already did it, seems like it would take a while."

"If the PSN problems are in fact caused by Anonymous, someone needs to grow the fuck up. I didn't pay for a PS3 in order to have its online service rendered useless by kids who think they're hot shit. It's the technological equivalent of vandalism, and makes about as much sense as someone smashing up my car because Honda wouldn't let them do certain things with theirs.

Should I feel equally annoyed by the possibility that it's just Sony's incompetence? For some reason that wouldn't bother me nearly as much."

"In a hypothetical 3D future, I will be reading a lot more books. Hopefully those don't also become 3D."
