"In my perfect world, my gaming consoles would not be seen. I wish I could hide my PS3 away in my closet as it sends everything over a super-long HMDI cord through my air vents... or wirelessly. DUN, DUN, DUUUUUUN!! I just want the games to be pretty. I never really look at the box that goes *vrrrrrrr* underneath my television.

But in all seriousness, yes. I would like to see a more colorful console pallet."

"If David Cage wants me to play through Heavy Rain once, then is it fair to assume that he'd be fine with me selling the game used on Amazon? The previous sentence was not serious. As a side note, I'm having a hard time playing through Heavy Rain again simply because I look at the characters and can't stop thinking, "Oh, the horrible shit I'm about to make you do..."

While I recognize the good and bad about all of these HD rereleases, they bring an interesting variable into the equation. I loved the Sly Cooper games on the PS2. I played through all three of them within a month in 2006, and I revere them deeply. Fast-forward four years, and some saint decided to rerelease these gems on a blu-ray disc. I haven't played the PS2 versions of these games since I beat them; I'm sure they are ugly, and run at a less-than-desired frame rate. With these rereleases, I get to play through the trilogy as I remember them: without the previous issues being as big of a deal as they are now. So far, I'm having a blast.

So, if the current rerelease model holds, I think we all should wait about five or six years before we replay anything. Imagine how much more "work-y" New Vegas will be then!"

"While Dragon Quest IX is a JRPG in every way shape and form, but its predictability is oddly drawing me in further. It has all of the traditional quirks, but it does them perfectly in a way that has me coming back for more."

"I doubt I am the only one to have played the Just Cause 2 about a bajillion times. I didn't even know there was a glitch that allowed me to play it for intervals longer than 30 minutes. I really like how these two games approached demos. It makes so much sense to do this for open world games. I can't wait to see how devs make demos for their more linear games as enticing as these two. I wrote about the Crackdown 2 Demo as well. http://bit.ly/c5U86z

Sorry Chase. Had to plug."

"more thing: I think most of us think reviews on video games are more subjective/opinion based than they actually are. Even though I see games as an artistic medium, I don't think the gray area between 'good game' and 'bad game' is that wide. Reviews of movies and music are so suggestive that their existence puzzles me; video games actually have a measure of good and bad, and it comes in the form of interaction. Games are based on computer code: something that works, or doesn't work. The subjective parts come in the form of story, art-style,"

"ully understand the reasoning behind attaching a score to a review in a publication. It attracts the eye, and hopefully the reader will be curious as to why you gave that game its score, and read the rest of your review. I completely agree with AJ in the sense that the progression of time can definitely skew the way we look at older games. For example: I played the pants off of Mario Kart 64 when I was younger, but now I consider it to be the scourge of my existence. I think for a game to be truly great, the original praise you gave it needs be reflected through your current opinion of the game. I would start looking at your past reviews, and based on whether or not you're happy with the score, you can fine tune your opinion on what makes a game great. So, maybe Brutal Legend wasn't 4.5 material after all. If you don't think it deserved a 4.5 now, use that 'mistake' of a score to encourage you to more accurately probe games in the future. I'm not saying your review of Brutal Legend was off (I haven't even played the game), but if you're unsatisfied with the score now, then yes, I believe you are "seeing these games for what they truly are now". I think your reviews are great! The fact that you reviewed Mass Effect 2 in 600 words destroys my"
