A Gamer's Guide to Eating While Playing

Videogames make me hungry.  I don't know why, and I have never read a scientific paper explaining the matter, but after about an hour and a half of being really into a game, I need food.  Years ago the easy thing to do would be to pause the game and eat.  But today I play online games, and not playing a round could mean the match for my team, so I am forced to eat while I play, or at least while I am respawning.  I have come to learn of the good, bad, and ugly of eating while gaming, and I would like to share it with you:

The Good

The best thing to have beside you while playing is any wrapped sandwich, sub, gyro, or burrito.  As long as it is made well and not leaky, any of these provide the best protein/fiber per bite ratio.  Some of the dangers are leakage, as mentioned before, and the chewing makes you unable to communicate in any multiplayer match, so chew quickly.  And beware of beans!

The Bad

One would think that snack foods such as popcorn, chips, or candy would suffice a Gamer's appetite, but these foods have two problems that make them bad food for Gamers.  One, they lack any real nutrients or vitamins.  Therefore, you will have to eat more and for a longer time period, hampering your gameplay as you go.  The second problem with these foods is that you will be hungry again in a half hour, and that's not what a Gamer wants.

The Ugly

Spaghetti.  Period.  Do not do it no matter how much your buddy says its possible to do.  He is an idiot and you know better.

As a final note to this, I have to add that you should not play games for more than an hour without taking a fifteen minute break, and to not play in a darkened room, or if you have heart conditions.

Lmao...I've actually never eaten a burrito or sandwich while playing video games. I do sometimes get hungry while playing games(like with anything else), but I usually take a break because I'm always paranoid about my controllers getting greasy. Haha, I have to agree on the no spaghetti. Imagine getting sauce all over your controllers.

As for the fifteen minute break rule--I've broken that more times than I can count in the last year, but I used to be good about taking frequent breaks.

I think you need to put down the bong, Lance. Anyway, if you really must watch games while eating why not watch a good videogame show like Jace Hall, Co-Op, or Totally Rad Show?

I have hard enough time drinking coffee while playing a game.

@Brian, I have broken the 15 minute every hour a play...

@Allistair - You think I can eat a sandwich, play TF2, and hold a bong at the same time! I think you are the one who has been smoking something!

pizza is good unless its a NY style slice that tends to topping heavy, unless you don't mind the slop on your shirt. Also it depends on the game your playing. If you playing say, a tower D game versus an fps then it changes the whole dynamic of the control.

Guess I am the only speed eater here. Yes I went there as my wife says I can finish off my food in less then a few minutes.
