Away from Gaming, Dial-Up, Books & Disussion Topic

I would like to think my time away from gaming would come to an end.  Some of you all ready know I am away on business for an unknown amount of time.  Having a chance I am using the Hotel Dial-Up service.  Yes the internet out in the middle of no where seems pretty much like Dial-Up Service with out the sound.

I left right after Borderlands was released and have been trying to comment when I can here.  With gaming flowing in my veins and no way to get out dial-up is better then nothing right now.  My time away I have gotten a chance to do a few things.  One was to finish reading the book, "Your Next Door Neighbor is a Dragon".

Now this book my not sound game related, but I won it on this site and thought it was very interesting.  The one thing after reading this book was can it be incorporated into a game?  What kind of game would it be the best in?  Once it hit me I think this would be an awesome point & click adventure.  Yes you can tell me how tired this genre is and over done.  On a light note the conversations and all the combinations of story lines when you interact with different people would be awesome.  This could only be done if they take it straight from the writer and has a great team behind the project that understands point & click adventures.  Down side it would only really capture a small audience who loves to laugh at weird internet parodies on real life people.

My discussion topic today is about Buy two games and get one free craze people are doing.  Amazon, Best Buy & Toys R Us have all done this in the month of October.  Does this mean everyone should do it or should people just wait till this sale?  Say if EA should do this for the EA store say in December.  Take a look at the line up EA has for games across all platforms.  Maybe they add Mass Effect 2 for the xbox 360 into this mix as well.  Me personally I would go on-line to the EA store buy Dragon Age, Saboteur & Fifa 10 all for the PS3 if this could happen in December.  Now does that drive sales?  Yes I bet it would drive sales.  Just like everyone else drove sales.  Should gamers wait to buy games to get a better deal or do you think gamers are a breed of wanting to be the first out of there friends?  Does it take age to become more of a bargin shopper or maybe do we splurge on games cause of some kind of craze?   So these are my discussions for the week.

Judging from what I've heard about that book, I think point-and-click would be the way to go. I'd actually hope for a step back to text-only adventures, because those graphics would be terrifying.

And to respond to your discussion topic, these sales absolutely move games. I try to keep a one-in, one-out policy, but then Best Buy had their sale and now I'm playing more Borderlands than Brütal Legend (I bought BL day one).

Well, if someone has plenty to spend and is eagerly anticipating a game, I'd say go for it right away. But if you have a limited amount of disposable income or want a game, but don't feel like you need it right now, it's better to wait. For the purpose of reviewing games, it's definitely to a person's advantage to get the game right away, but for simple pleasure, sometimes it's best to finish what you have and then get a new game when the price drops.

In regards to purchasing games, I think the co-op aspect makes a big difference (be it online or in game co-op). If my friends and I keen to play a certain title, it'll be suer fire purchase. But if it's a title I'd play stand alone, i usually wait a few months for the price to drop.
