Navigating our way through all the Sunday shoppers and diners to what seemed to be a nice way to end a weekend; we made our way to Jakes Burgers and Billiards in Pasadena,CA. We arrived only to be greeted by a handful of others patiently waiting in line ahead of us. It was 3pm, two and a half hours before the doors eventually opened and already people started gathering behind us.
For the most part it looked like your run of the mill Socal crowd-a melting pot of sorts with the occasional fanboy that stepped out to get their strategy guides signed by the pros.
Admission was free to those who registered and were allotted five tickets per registrant. There was also the option of a $25 VIP ticket which granted access to the VIP area, 2 drink tickets, free appetizers and free entry to “beat the pro”. If you just wanted regular access but wanted to try your luck against a pro you could opt for that too, it would set you back ten bucks. As the doors open and we filed in, we were met by a large open space set up with a large screen and projector which would later showcase the main event. On smaller screens littered around the center of this room they had multiple XBOX 360’s set up for the “beat a pro” matches. There was also a bar towards the back set up with five widescreen tv’s which mirrored the feed that was on the screen in the main room. Business must have been good, the place seemed to reach capacity within an hour after opening.
At about 7pm the first set of matches began. I won’t get into all the matchups, but if memory serves, UTJ (Sim) took on Magus (Sim) first.Second, YeB (Gen) took on Tatsu (Vega) in a first to 5 matches. YeB started off strong and took an early lead with a perfect in round one. Tatsu eventually adjusted, but was no match for YeB’s combos. Basically, if you take a st.mk from him, be prepared to eat a 9-14 hit combo-its automatic. He ended up taking the victory 5-2. ShadyK (Ryu) took an early lead against Kai (Fuerte) 2-1, but Kai’s excellent use of mixups was too much for ShadyK. Kai ended up the victor with a 5-2 win.
Main event time had arrived, and the moment everyone was waiting for had dawned upon us. The highly anticipated 5on5 West vs East match.

Pretty one sided. Even though I was rooting for the west, it was a pretty dope night. Two TE sticks were raffled off and apparently there was a West vs. East rematch with a new set of West players. Unfortunately I had left but was able to catch some of the stream when I got home. Of course, east won again. For more details on each match, check out the shoryuken forums or eventhubs.com. Hopefully Barfights 3 isn’t too far off! See you there!
Also here is a blog from a fellow Bitmobber regarding an upcoming event in OH for any of you in the area. Justin will get a chance for a rematch agaisnt Daigo the beast Umehara. (Daigo beat Justin for SFIV champ at EVO earlier this year.
