I haven't picked up Madden NFL 12 yet. And I'm not sure I'm going to, even though I'd love to join in our Bitmob Wants You community callout about it.
See, I've got something else to scratch my football itch. I've got Tecmo Super Bowl.
The good people at TecmoBowl.org have released a new ROM which drops the current NFL rosters into the 1991 NES classic. They're even updating it to fit the current injury situation in the league...meaning players should be wary if they pick the Indianapolis Colts. (Quarterback Peyton Manning is out after undergoing neck surgery, and his backup Kerry Collins is...well, not Peyton Manning.)
Tecmo Super Bowl is the game that truly made me fall in love with football. It's laughably simplistic in its options and gameplay -- making for some hilarious antics -- but incredibly addictive. And these days, when I've got a hectic schedule and too many other games to play, its bite-sized sessions fit perfectly.
Download it for free here (it comes bundled with the Nestopia emulation program for PC) if you're interested. Oh, and a word to the wise: play as Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Trust me.
Check below for a brief trailer, featuring the original Tecmo Bowl theme music as covered by video-game rockers The Minibosses.
