Army of 73: My Consoles and Portables

Editor's note: David's consoles sure are lucky. Not only do they have lots of other consoles to hang out with, but he even lets them go outside on his deck for some fresh air from time to time. That's a lot of gaming history you've got there, David! - Aaron

I received my first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System, when I was two years old. Through the years, my precious NES gained quite a bit of company. Back in December of 2006, I took the photograph up above of all my consoles and portables. I've added a few more to my library since then, making the photo somewhat outdated. Even though today's weather in Seattle is scorching hot, I decided that now was the time for me to hold another family reunion for my video game systems.

Photos of the gathering are after the break!

A modest increase from last time, wouldn't you agree? I know it's not exactly the largest collection of consoles and portables on the planet, but I'm still proud of my 73 (counting add-ons and duplicates) forms of electronic entertainment. Before this blog comes to a close, I'll share a few more photos taken at a closer range.

I hope y'all had fun hanging out together, it will most likely be two or three more years before such an event happens again. I'm pretty sure that there will also be a few newcomers next time around.

Holy toledo. These pictures alone deserve to be on the front page of Kotaku. You've got it all. I wish I had that sense of preservation. I normally sell my old consoles and games in order to pay for the latest and greatest. I don't have the constitution to hold on to anything for very long.

"Out with the old. In with the new" is my motto.

Also, why do you have 2 of everything? How many people do you live with/are part of your family?
Omar Yusuf , July 29, 2009
But you don't have 3 PS3s.
Jasmine Maleficent Rea , July 29, 2009
Omar: Most of the doubles were either given to me for free or found for dirt cheap. The 360s, DS Lites, and PSPs would be the exception. One 360 is Japanese while the other is my backup unit that I picked up from a thrift store. I loved the colors and designs on the portables, so had to have 'em. Four people... 2 children and 2 adults.

Jasmine: I don't want three dust collectors. Kidding!

Un. Freakin. Believable.

That is the most impressive console collection I have seen to-date. And I thought I was a hoarder of video game memorabilia...

Impressive....Most Impressive.
David Matos , July 29, 2009
...it looks like they are organizing for battle against Jack Thompson.
Keith Schloemer , July 29, 2009
You know you have a lot of videogame consoles when you have to take them outside just to get a picture of them all! Impressive collection you have there - I hold on to my old systems as well but I don't even think I'm breaking double digits. 6 DS's and 3 PSP's...boggles my mind.

You're lucky it didn't rain that day!
Omar Yusuf , July 29, 2009
smilies/cheesy.gif David, I noticed there is only ONE Gamecube, and its purple. Does it still work? Is that the only Cube you have ever had? smilies/cheesy.gif

I see they're all hanging out on a deck. Did that have a BBQ while they were out there? Seems a shame to get together and not have a few burgers...
Aaron Thomas , July 29, 2009
Omar: The heat in Seattle is breaking records, so I was pretty sure the rain wasn't going to suddenly come out and ruin my photoshoot. Some rain would be nice today so I could cool down.

Lance: Yep and yep. Purple is fabulous!

Aaron: Haha, that would have been nice, but no. They did get treated to a quick cleaning or dusting, but that was it.
David Ngo , July 29, 2009
I didn't think anyone bought that Micro nintendo gameboy. That is just like um wow in itself.

However I am surprised you do not own the Simpsons 360 as it was limited run for a short time.
Toby Davis , July 29, 2009
Until last generation I hadn't held on to any of my old consoles, so I am definitely jealous. Although I would hate to have all of that sit in storage. Maybe they could be decorations when I get my cigar room
Chris Ternus , July 29, 2009
Man, to have duplicates of systems is amazing. I suppose it isn't a bad idea for parts since starting with the PS2/xbox systems became less reliable IMO.
Dustin Halfacre , July 30, 2009
You need a NEX to replace those junky toaster style NESs.
Alex R. Cronk-Young , July 30, 2009
Jesus fucking Christ. I'm sorry, but whenever I see a ridiculous collection like this I just want to punch things.
Michael Pangelina , July 30, 2009
Wow, it would have sucked if it had started raining while you took the photos
Alex Spike , July 30, 2009
but do you game for all of them? lol
Ryan Schuster , July 30, 2009
fucking

I just learned a new word!
Lance Darnell , July 30, 2009
I don't think I count this as 73 systems. You cant count the duplicates! The challenge has been brought....we are going to have to do our own count. Stay tuned!
Adellle Starr , July 30, 2009
You have way too many PSP's. Hell, one is too much!
Duncan Hamilton , July 30, 2009
Toby: I do want the Simpsons console, but that thing was too limited. There's currently one listed on eBay for over a grand, so no thanks.

Alex: No way, I want to be able to play Castlevania 3!

Ryan: They each had their moment in the spotlight over the years, but I honestly collect more than I play.

Adellle: I await these results.
David Ngo , July 30, 2009
If I count up m duplicates I probably have around 60 or so. I think it's at 38 non-dupes.
Shane Lougheed , July 30, 2009
you are officially the new background on work computer. You just beat out two guys rick rollin (with signs) the presidential debates. Congrats
Jeff Crahan , July 30, 2009
Man I would do anything for a Final Fantasy III DS. Unspeakable, terrible things. Very very nice and impressive collection by the way.
Louis Bracero , July 30, 2009
FFIII DS is cheap on Amazon.
Brian Shirk , July 30, 2009
Nice collection, man. I don't even wanna know how many games you have. I bet you have four copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Brian Shirk , July 30, 2009
Damn...for a second there I thought I spotted an N-Gage. Wait a minute...smilies/cheesy.gif

Fair play to you sir. All you need now is R.O.B.
Marc Boatman , August 01, 2009
Brian: I do have a handful of those, but only one copy of PDS.

Marc: I've actually had ROB since the moment I received my NES, but he wasn't on the list for this gathering.
