The following is a day in my life, the life of a college student in between semesters.
3pm: I awake to my girlfriends yelps echoing across my small dorm room. She is being attacked by a number of skags as she ventures towards the goal of reaching “The Vault”. I laugh at her unnecessary nerves as she marches around The Borderlands. I decide now is a better time then any to wake up (considering it is pretty late already), and hop in the shower.
3:30pm: I emerge from the steaming bathroom shivering from the bitter northern Michigan air seeping in through the cracks my window, not realizing I spent so much time in the shower until I look at the clock. The shower was scalding as it usually is and the comfort I found in it left me falling in and out of consciousness, leaving me with the inability to properly evaluate how long I spent merely standing under the faucet. I kick my girlfriend out of my chair so I can begin my daily perusal of the tech related websites Bitmob, Digg, Revision 3, IGN, and G4 just to name a few.
4:30pm: My girlfriend finally completes her dose of Borderlands and we set off to indulge ourselves with the increasingly boring selection of vegetarian food that our school has to offer.
The whole time we eat I slip in and out of conversation constantly thinking of the next thing I can write about, and the things I can accomplish today in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
5pm: We re-enter my dorm room and I promptly sit down at my desk chair after emptying my pockets, seeing to a maximum level of comfort while I begin my overly excessive stay on Xbox Live. I turn on my Xbox and television, shortly thereafter I equip my Turtle Beach X1's. I try to keep one ear uncovered so I can talk to my girlfriend as I play, however when I play search and destroy it usually takes up all of my attention. I truly am grateful for my girlfriend, she is extremely understanding of my addiction to video games and now partakes in the experience, wether it be through playing games such as Borderlands, or helping me with the puzzle solving in Uncharted 2. She is also my main supporter as I try to enter the field of journalism, hopefully ending in me being a part of the game writing community some day.
5pm -9pm: I spend four hours half playing video games, half talking to my girlfriend, and half watching Co-Op and old episodes of the 1Up show...yes three halves. Something that I truly enjoy doing on a daily basis.
9pm-11pm: I take a break to sit on the the side of my bed that is now jurry rigged into a couch. My girlfriend and I pop a bag of popcorn and enjoy Star Trek in Bluray on our newly acquired PS3. We bought the PlayStation together after receiving an obscene amount of money from the book return.
11pm-5am: After finishing the movie I hop back into my desk chair and fire up Modern Warfare 2. I sit brainless, with a controller stuck in my hands, playing game after game of ground war and search and destroy. I use the down time in between games to read articles on Bitmob and IGN. Around 1am my girlfriend usually decides to go to sleep and since she chooses to stay with me in my dorm room my Turtle Beach headset does a good job of making the warfare I am experiencing non-existent to her. However, since the gameplay is so loud I am coincidentally screaming when talking to my friends, as I can not hear my own voice, and I periodically wake up my girlfriend, something I am sure she has grown used too. The whole time I play my friends dodge in an out of my games, as they spend a great deal of time playing Xbox Live as well. Every couple of hours I stretch to the full extent of my reach allowed with my headset and wired controller, and grab frozen burritos to throw in the microwave and cans of pop to down.
5am: Realizing it is five in the morning I promptly turn off my Xbox...after my game is over. I swiftly strip down to my underwear and slide into my small bed, trying to seem like I have been there awhile as my girlfriend's alarm is going off in ten minutes. I soon fall asleep to be woken up by my girlfriend's alarm. I go back to sleep, and await to be woken up by my girlfriend as she marches back into my room at three in the afternoon, after work.
Man do I love college...I need a job...or an intervention.
