Sony's got a new, technically superior handheld gaming system. Nintendo's got a new system, too, with weaker graphics but one very unique feature.
Is it 2004 again?
Assuming we're all safe from space-time paradoxes, Sony's announcement of its "Next Generation Portable" has set up another battle with the big N for your handheld gaming dollars. So we at Bitmob asked our loyal Facebook and Twitter followers for their opinions on the PSP's successor. (Check out last week's Tweetbook Q&A to see reactions to the Nintendo 3DS.)
We also asked our followers to tell us about the nerdiest piece of swag or memorabilia they own. We've got some grade-A nerds on staff, too -- wait till you see Shoe's Mighty Muggs collection….

By now you've heard the news about Sony's "NGP," the successor to the PSP. What do you think? Will you buy one?
Via Twitter:
@AlanRappa (Alan Rappaport): There is still a lot of mystery with the NGP (price, internal storage, battery life), but if the answers turn out right...sign me up.
@chase_koeneke: it's got a lot of gimmicks. I'm interested to see how games take advantage of them. Not sold on the tech alone, though. Also, Sony is still trying to shoehorn console games on a handheld. I don't think that's what handheld gamers want.
@Bboy_Izilla (Isaiah T. Taylor): I didn't buy the last one and I won't buy this one. A shame, too -- I'd love to support the niche games on the platform.
@bitmobshoe (Dan Hsu): I can't stand fake dual-analog controls on the iPhone, so I'm looking forward to playing "real" games on the NGP!
@Tolkoto (Mike Minotti): It has an Uncharted game. It must be mine.
@CosmoRoss (Chris Ross): I want to see the games before I commit. But it sure looks cool.
@MikersMikers: If it's priced $250, I'll get one. So basically, I'm not getting one.
@robidoo: I think it's cool, but don't plan to buy it as of right now. Actually kinda hoping the cost of the PSP-3000s come down. ;)
@acronkyoung: I think I'm more excited about the features of the NGP than I am the 3DS. I just don't know how much it's going to cost. If it's also $250, then I am sold. Problem is, 3DS is out first, and I might crack and buy one before NGP ever announces a price.
@bbretterson (Brett Bates): Nope. Fancy graphics and a weird touch-sensitive casing aren't enough to woo me.
Via Facebook:
Jonathan Krukoff: I think Sony should look into some kind of iTunes and/or Netflix type of services to stay relevant. And not desert the thing!
Gabriel A. Candia: I would like to buy one, but I feel burnt with how the PSP turned out. But in the end, the price is going to be a deciding factor. If it will be cheaper than the 3DS, I'll pick one up, even though I am just not happy with its design.
Patrick Garlotte: I already have my 3DS pre-ordered. I will definitely get NGP, but probably not until 6-8 months after launch...or whenever a Metal Gear game is released, whichever comes first.
Arnar Leví Aðalsteinsson: It depends on the price. I'm very impressed by what has been revealed about it so far, and I'm confident in Sony going all the way to support the NGP. It's probably going to depend on if I can afford it when it releases.
Ross Adams: I might get one eventually, much like I got a PSP last year. As of right now, though, I don't have much call for a portable system. I bought Infinite Space for my DS and barely played it. My iPhone has become my gaming system when I'm away from my PC and 360.
Evian Machore: PSP's library fizzled out over the years as I didn't see many titles released that caught my interest. This time around, I can wait.
