"nly meant that we adopt those good or evil morals in the sense that we assume the identity of the character while we play. Once the game turns off, the illusion ends and we are the same person we always were. However, we can take those assumed experiences and decisions with us and consider them, depending on their moral we"

"aven't, but from what I can see about the game, it seems like this is a style of game play that could challenge belief sets: an immersive narrative that leads you through a certain (i.e., traumatic) experience that can really make you think. The KOTORs and Mass Effects of today are really fun when we adpot a moral set that is not our own, but I wonder if anyone thinks there is a limit to"

"o, I don't see any form of media make a person question their stance on rape, but perhaps some like capital punishment, for example? Do we play our character to become like Batman, swearing to never take a life, but allowing murderers the chance to escape and wreak more havoc on society? Or do we chose a path like the Punisher, vowing to end the lives of criminals upon the occurance of their guilt? Through catharsis, could such a game make us think about what we believe is"

"for rape as a player action or actual mechanic in games, the only place that can exist are low budget XXX titles where that is the only purpose and mechanic of the game, only serving the sick and the shameful. Do you think that in the future a game like Fable or KOTOR that places integral values on moral dilemmas could features such things? Not as a game play mechanic, of course, but as something tastefully and realistically enacted in a narrative that can create a powerful set of characters in a real and morally charged situation. Rapelay games deserve their place in the foul and terrible lowest level of gaming culture, but could similar brutal dealings ever come to pass as a small part (never the focus) of a very mature and conscientious video game? The narratives of our games are heading towards a level of that of classic literature and film, which have certainly featured such things. These games allow us to explore the dark side and the light side of human morality, but how far will we see it"

", I think that's the thing, is that there would be a limit to games that allow you to be evil or good. For many, there's a line where this kind of "morality meter" can go to deep and cease to be fun. It seems that at least right now, the deepest something like it can go is in the MMO space. No matter what the gaming mechanism, such proximity to other people will always give us such chall"

"e, but to what extent? How far can triple-A games probe our sense of right and wrong? Mass Effect allowed us to enter into a homosexual relationship between two different species, but didn't really delve into the ramifications of it. Where does something like this go from part of a game to something more socially wei"

"pite this console generation trying to make every grandpa and college babe a gamer, the stigma of us being overweight, sexless shut-ins and directionless, brain-dead sadists is still apparent and rampant. Gaming is still an alternative culture that values exclusivity and severe depths of knowledge, which is at once the source of attraction and repulsion that keeps it unique. However, there is always some fragment of truth behind every stereotype, and it is usually these extremes which capture the publics attention. Thus, all of us socialized, independent, employed, rational, mature and rather good-looking gamers are all hidden in plain sight behind the flaming young fanboys and arrogant loudmo"

"reactions to violence must be prefaced by context. Only a very small minority finds little or no separation between fictional and true violence. The quality or realism affects the magnitude of the gore, but not necessarily our reaction to it. I would say with the certainty of experience that most would find actual, even low quality footage of a man shot to death or a woman undergoing surgery more difficult to watch that the most realistic, HD portrayal of one fictional ninja skewering another highly-pressurized ninja. Knowing that gore is falsified removes our empathic reaction to it. Seeing the mega-evil bad guy beheaded is fun. A human beheading is"

"s clear that a large majority of games reflect a more nostalgic taste; most of the titles end in a number connotating that particular installment of the series. If this industry at all follows the trends of film and TV, the big PS4 launch titles will be sequels, reboots, and at best a few quality original IPs. This doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of originality, but certainly shows that the more seasoned IPs are easier to sell, as familarity eases the buyer's conscience. This certainly seems to create a difficult environment for new IPs to burst into, but it does not prevent the creation of quality games. It allows for great old games to be reborn as poorly crafted repeats, which doesn't harm the industry, but only soils our memories of its past se"

"t Odyssey is one of the best JRPGs on the 360 to date. 4 discs long, and with all the quirk and story of the best JRPGs. But, it's very true that the best RPG offerings today are really on the DS. Many Final Fantasy games, both new and reissued. Most RPGs on the home consoles tend to try and branch out, incorporating action, adventure, or platform elements, rather than sticking to a more classic s"
