The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games focus around a fictionalised and sensationalised outcome of a harrowing tragedy of real modern history. Is this exploitation?

Though I was probably younger than 13 last time I played it, I managed to enjoy it a lot. The atmosphere is completely unique, and some of the locales are spectacular with their sound effects and music. A lot of the setpieces are amazingly dramatic aswell, which is easily the reason to play it. You've made me want to now, actually, just by causing me to think why I enjoyed it in the first place. As Chris said, hopefully you'll end up enjoying it too, but there's way too much to stress over completion; it's better to just not read up on it and not know what you've missed.

Nice writing, and I agree on almost all points. You don't, however, mention Zero Mission which, while a remake of the original game, was more or less designed as a throwback to the gameplay Super Metroid offered, and while it may not have captured the atmosphere of Super Metroid, its open world and encouragement of exploration were commendable. Great article!

This is very touching, and I wish you the best, Stephen. My father is my world, and while I rarely ever game with him anymore, if something were to happen to him one of my fondest memories would be of the times I spent playing Crimson Skies split-screen with him against people on the original Xbox Live. Everything you have said here is testament to how games can connect people, and entirely refutes the anachronistic notions many have that gaming itself is a waste of time, as shared memories of it can be just as precious as shared memories of a day out, meal, holiday or similar.
Again, I wish both of you the best.
