"Modern Warfare's Chernobyl sequence definitely gets a vote from me as well, and the White Forest from HL2: Episode 2 is definitely awesome as well.. As far as older games go, I'm sure some will point to the final boss fight of Super Metroid.

For me the first game that came to mind was Shadow of the Colossus, though. That game had a lot of problems with camera and controls and all that but Colossus #13 and the ending sequence are just incredibly awesome.

As far as unscripted stuff goes, the Battlefield series pretty much makes its name on unexpectedly awesome moments happening out of nowhere, although I think Left 4 Dead gives it a run for its money."

"e been using Goozex for a while and my experience has been much better. While you can't get a brand new game right away but usually any games older than eight months or so will be readily available. Even really popular games, in some senses especially because tons of people bought it, tend to be done with it forever at around the same point, and all of a sudden tons of copies go up as people try to sell off when it's still at high value. It's worth noting that where you are in the line isn't indicative of how many people will get a copy ahead of you. The line is everybody who put it on hold or has a current request going, but the VAST majority of those people either don't have enough points and/or credits to actually do it. In reference to the Orange Box (360 version) for example right now in "all" trading regions there are 12 active full package offers going right now, which means 12 people are ready to send the game and be matched immediately. Meanwhile out of the 268 people requesting a full package, 34 are "restricted" (users with an active request but not enough points or credits), 244 are "on hold" (users who are in line but don't want it at the moment), and 0 are ready to be matched. This means that if you have enough points+credits at this moment and have an active request, you'll get matched pretty much right away and skip all of those people...so I would expect a notification of an incoming copy pretty soon. So you can't get brand new games, but you'll be able to get most marquee games in under a year or so. I got Dead Space and Prince of Persia about two months ago, which would put Dead Space at 10 months and PoP at 8. PS Your problems might be karmic because the gaming gods are angry you didn't already have the Orange Box. Seriously I hope you get your copy soon because those are must-"

"sort of a Beatlemaniac, and I think some of these credits could be argued, so yes, I'm going to be that guy and just do it because I can't resist. I would probably put "I Saw Her Standing There" under just Paul since I think John was a smaller contributor there. Initially the song was even credited as McCartney/Lennon under the terms of their initial arrangement, which was that whoever had written more would get their name first, before it was changed to uniformly listing them alphabetically. I would also put "With A Little Help From My Friends" in that same category. In John's own 1980 Playboy interview he said that it was "Paul, with a little help from me". Since "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Within You Without You" are not actually in the game but are instead there as the bad Love mashup, I would take both out. I thought "Lucy in the Sky" was pretty much just John off of his son's drawing, so I would throw Paul off of that, and probably "Do You Want to Know a Secret" too, which I think John wrote in the tub (both of these according to Steve Turner's book A Hard Day's Write). So if all those adjustments were made, then John and Paul would each have 36. Coincidence? I think not. Unless I screwed up the math and/or the facts, in which case, never"

"hink you've argued against a different issue somewhat here. Most of your article seems to be more about the ethics of having day-one DLC. I don't really have much of a problem with this - if the game is worth the money, then it's worth the money, and if I obviously prefer stuff be included at no cost it's not exactly a "right". The bigger problem here is gimping the game for those who don't buy used. The Gears 2 Map Pack annoyed me as well in this manner. You said you'd bought Mirror's Edge used - how would you feel if you weren't able to play some bonus content because you got it used? Now again, you can argue it ethically since no one's forcing anybody to buy the game. From a gut-feeling perspective though, this sort of stuff annoys me. I doubt it really helps Bioware all that much either, since it mostly earns them some ire from certain gamers, and I doubt that those who might've considered buying it used are going to buy it new just because of this. More likely they'll just not play a"

"p in mind that L4D 2 also has a brand-new mode that they haven't talked about at all yet. Alex: I think including the L4D content would be a good idea too. That way free updates of the first can go to both games, and I think I saw something about that as well. I was initially upset about it, but a few weeks later it seems clear that this was more because what I really wanted and expected out of Valve was news on Half-Life 2: Episode 3. But Left 4 Dead was my favorite game of the year, and I have gotten and will continue to get far more than my money's worth out of it (and I got it at full price). L4D 2 for me is an easy buy, even with the other great games coming out at the same time (somebody release games in the su"

"e been wanting this game since it was unveiled at last year's E3, and everything I've seen has left me more interested: the gore, the upgrades, the catapult you can build that launches you across the map. Unfortunately I was not in the beta, but it shouldn't be too long before it comes out, as Playstation Europe said on June 1st that it would come out "Late June": http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/06/01/whats-coming-up-on-psn-this-june/["

"a big NBA fan, so the yearly updates annoy me. We're slowly reaching the point where we won't need them any more - NBA 2k9 already has a "Living Rosters" feature that does trades and even adjusts ratings, but I don't know if it can insert new players, and they probably don't want to anyway. Until a point is reached where they can do that and yearly updates aren't necessary from a roster standpoint (at which point I hope they switch to once every two years), why not make the pricing scheme reward buyers of former games. Let's say you got 2k9 and want 2k10 - why not get 2k10 at "budget" price, which these days is 40 bucks. Or just sell them budget outright, as if they're developed in a year using the same engine and mostly the same gameplay, the costs can't be too"

"s it matter if it's a sequel? Why not approach it as more of a spinoff (except with the lesser implications that term implies) - something set in the same universe (hence the Old Republic tagline), but not continuing the same direct story. The BioWare quotes I read suggested to me that their idea was that this contained the same amount of content as seven sequels to KOTOR would, but it doesn't seem like a direct sequel - otherwise they would call it KOTOR III. Your complaint about the art I can understand, although I don't share it. I like the look. And maybe I just don't care about the platform because I played the first one on PC a"

"ried out the, um, inFamous demo but it didn't hook me. For starters it took me a while to figure out where the objective was because I didn't pay enough attention to the voice-over and didn't notice the blue mark on the minimap. Also, I kept dying, and even though checkpoints were plentiful I got a little frustrated as I had no idea how to tell how much health I had. Also the free running all felt a little "sticky" to me sometimes, and I had a little difficulty getting where I wanted to go. I'll give it another shot soon t"
