At some point in any gamer's life, you will always return back to atleast one of your favorite pastime games. You eventually get bored of all the other games you've been recently playing. Sick of the latest installment of a franchise and just want to go back to the good old times you had in previous years? Maybe for some of the Shooter adicts, it's the original Quake or Medal of Honor.
For me, it's oddly The Lord of the Rings Online. I returned to the game after a long stretch of being away. I realized I'd missed out on an entire expansion! Thankfully, it had only released a few months back, so everyone was still bustling around in the new content it had to offer. I quickly caught up with everyone level wise and began a three day marathon to acquire the new raid set of gear. I got all of the pieces but two.
While I played the game, I came to realize that it wasn't the game that I had missed so much, it was the people who actually played it! Upon logging in I received numerous IMs from friends and guild mates alike all asking how I've been, where was I, and so on. I was taken back by how much I was missed. Thanks to all the friends I had made in previous adventures, I was able to easily transistion back in the game and get caught up to speed with everyone else.
The community in The Lord of the Rings Online is something that I'll never forget. For the most part, every game has it's fair share of trolls, the people who play the game are very nice, helpful, and comical! It was a thrill to group up with old friends and even make new ones. I've now blown through most of the end game content the game has to offer and started up recycling through old content with other characters of mine, but with an update on the horizon, I am left dieing in anticipation.
What is your ground work game though? I'd very much love to know which games you like to return to after being away from for so long thanks to recent hit blockbusters.
