EDITOR'S NOTEfrom Jay Henningsen

I don't know if it's more amazing or sad that Andrew has managed to distill every possible encounter at a video-game retail store into a single Bitmob post. What decisions will you make?

“Good day,” the man says in a high voice that belies his girth. “Welcome to Video Game Store, where you can trade all your games for a new game! Can I interest you in a pre-order to reserve a copy of a game that may or may not be guaranteed?”

I can't wait to read this. Multiple times. Oh, and I want to know how many views this gets. I hope it's a ridiculous number.

You just summed up all my visits to the video game store. Lol.

Imagine, in the old days everything was much, much worse without at least minimal standards from Gamestop. I think I remember the owner of my local Video Game Land was trying to sell a $500 Wii system before the store closed for good. "It's a big value!" *rolls eyes back*

Did it come packed with extra titles, including such classics as Chicken Shoot, M&M's Adventures, and 34 sports peripherals? If so, that's a limited collector's edition bundle.

I'm sure that he could have added in all those classics and peripherals. And the selling-back value would still be less than $500. Lol.

When it comes to Wii peripherals, you have to consider it a donation to charity. Obstensibly you are taking terrible products off the market that some parent would use to ruin their child's birthday. As knowledgable gamers, that is a sacrifice we have to make.

That's true. I should consider it an honor, preventing children from suffering through horrible games. Hahaha...

I didn't even know you could add so many pages.

Andrewh
October 12, 2011

Neither did I! I had to run some tests to make sure I wasn't going to bust anything up. No idea how far it goes, but so far the only bug is the weird overlap of page numbers. Thank goodness I planned to use hard links instead of classic "Turn to Page X" format.

Brilliant my man, absolutely brilliant. The last "Choose Your Own Adventure" book I read was Goosebumps (the werewolf one). Nice work!

Tsk tsk. Real nerds grew up on Steven Jackson and Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy!

*starts slow clap*

Bravo, sir.

By the way - I apparently just bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  Can't wait to see what I buy next time.

Andrewh
October 12, 2011

Excellent choice! Did you get it new or used? And did you try to trade it in?

I got mine used.  Presumably it was priced at 39.99.  I didn't try to trade it in, though I imagine that will come soon.

Well that was accurate.  I bought Deus Ex on release day, and don't see myself playing it again.  It's a keeper too.  Awesome job!

Bet you didn't get the Onlive coupon either.

I bought a Dynasty Warriors game?? Upsetting result!

You can always trade it in...oh wait....

You sir, are a genious! Brand new Deus Ex Human Revolution Collector's Edition, and I'm going to keep it.

Andrewh
October 16, 2011

You'd have to. They can only sell it at normal edition cost on the used market.

Thank God this was just a pretend quest, or that whatever item that came with the collector's edition will be sitting right next my (still packaged!) Halo Reach Legendary Edition.

Yay, I bought Dark Souls! Mission accomplished.

It could not have possibly gone any other way.

You are swell too, unless you traded your game, in which case you're dead to me.

This is awesome! I got Deus Ex.

Like Chase, I'm also curious about how well this does. It deserves a lot of hits.

I can guarantee your hit record will stay intact. Ha!

I wrote a massive CYOA zombie story for a college writing class, so this warms my heart. Enjoy your 100k views! I'm going to go through this a few times.
