I take it you’re done with Portal 2 by now, and like the ravenous American that you are, you’re hungry for more video gaming goodness. Unless you’re into post apocalyptic racing, you may want to just replay Portal 2 or something. How about blindfolded? Or while standing on one leg? Or maybe while suspended upside down?

MotorStorm Apocalypse (PS3)
Tuesday May 3, 2011
Karma gave MotorStorm Apocalypse a pretty short straw in terms of actually being released. Originally, Apocalypse was going to be released in Japan as well as New Zealand. Both countries have delayed it indefinitely due to disasters occurring months before Apocalypse’s release date. It even got pushed back here as well, and then PSN went down, albeit temporarily, putting online multiplayer out of the question on launch day. All that just because MotorStorm decided to set the game in a disaster area. Here I thought post-apocalyptic settings were all the rage.
Like before, you get to race 3 different types of vehicles: Offroad 4 wheelers, Motorcycles, and big Semis. Each one has certain advantages, and, in the past MotorStorm’s tracks has various areas that’s suitable for one type of vehicle but not others. Moreover, the tracks tend to change from lap to lap, sometimes happening right in front of you.
Call of Duty can add the racing genre onto the list of genres that’s been influenced by it. Apocalypse’s multiplayer has a system of loadouts and level progression that’s akin to the one found in Modern Warfare. Stranger still, Apocalypse has a wagering system as well, but instead of betting on your self, you bet on other players easing the pain of defeat somewhat when you come in last but bet on the right player.
MotorStorm may very well be the PS3’s best arcade racing franchise, but that’s not really saying much. Still, PS3 owners wanting of a good, fun, apocalyptic racer probably won’t have to look any further than MotorStorm Apocalypse.
Coming This Week

Thor: God of Thunder (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS, DS)
These days, I figure out when movies I want to watch come out based off of when the video game version of the movie come out, which might explain why I can never remember when rom-com movies come out. As expected, Thor let’s you play as Thor as he battles various Asgardian monstrosities and villains in a brawler style game complete with abilities and powers that you level as you progress. On the console front, the 360 and PS3 versions look less cartoony compared to the Wii version and plays in 3rd person style, but for the most part, the three versions are not to dissimilar from each other. The handheld versions though shed the 3rd dimension for a 2D platforming experience. May your Mjolnir hammer tossing always find its mark.
