DSiWare So Far...

So DSi has been out for a couple of months now, and what I thought would be an exciting and well provided feature, DSiWare, has pretty much fallen flat so far.  Also it's kinda scary to think that except for one upcoming title announced (Mighty Flip Champs), I don't see much else on the way that interests me.

Now it is still early, so I'm not giving up on DSiWare yet. I'm sure that there will probably be some interesting titles announced in the near future, most likely even as early as E3.

There is one item that could shift things in a major and positive way for DSiWare, and that is an Open SDK. An Open SDK of course is not revolutionary, but the iPhone is proof enough that opening up development to independent, private developers, whether they are hobbyists or do this as a career, can produce some interesting and imaginative titles. Yes shovel-ware will be created, but can it really be worse than another animal clock or calculator?

However this probably is a pipe-dream, I don't see Nintendo opening up DSiWare development at any time, as they've always kept things close to their chests. This could be a great move for Nintendo as it might help stem the tide of homebrew, and it could actually make the big "N" look progressive for a change (Arm flailing to me was only progressive up to a point).
