I'm going Back in the Day With New Friends.

Just a few more days untill Funspot XI. I'll be playing both classic Arcade and console games, doing my best trying to rack up high scores like all the others around me. The now famous Donkey Kong machine will likely be crowded with people that have seen the movie The King of Kong:Fistful of Quarters, regardless of who's playing. I'll be in a corner playing Super Pac-Man, BurgerTime, Rampart (if it's there) and a few other titles to see if I can even get near the top 5. I'll compete in the Funspot tournament this year for the first time and don't know what to expect.

But all that isn't even why I'm going. I'm going so I can meet the friends that I've made through the Twin Galaxies forums. I first heard of http://twingalaxies.com while reading an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly and thought "Wow, Video Game World Records, someone can beat NES Super Mario Bros. in under 6 minutes, that's crazy!" I jumped onto my computer and started checking out scores and times on their website. I remembered playing through NES Castlevania in about 15 minutes when I was a kid, then looked at the time Twin Galaxies had for its Fastest Completion and figured with practice I might beat the time. After about a week of playing every now and then while recording the game, I set a new time and sent TG the tape. When I submitted that first gaming World Record, I had no idea that a few years later I'd have over 40 gaming World Records and that my name would appear multiple times in the Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer's Edition.

Still I don't even come close to Tom Duncan's 5000+, Mr. Kelly R. Flewin's near 800 or Scott (PSP) Patterson's around 400 World Records. But that's ok. It's not a numbers game to me. It's simply fun. I congratulate just about everybody that breaks or sets a World Record when I'm browsing the forums and that's had sort of a karma effect. It's a good feeling being congratulated and nice to know others give a shit about your accomplishments. Even if it's a score or fastest completion in a video game. The people above plus countless others who participate on the Twin Galaxies Electronic Scoreboard have earned my respect by being some of the most decent people I've come to know. They just so happen to do amazing things in video games.

I'll be sure to take pictures and record what I can so others can share in the funspot experience. Hopefully I'll set a new record or two.

On another note, http://twingalaxies.com will be interviewing me soon about my Street Fighter IV World Record of 1,177,900 points for X-Box 360. I'll be sure to throw a link in another post when it's done and up on their main page. Untill next time. Shoe and BitMob kick ass.
