In this reboot-themed episode of the Mobcast, Crystal Dynamics' Meagan Marie joins Bitmob's Dan Hsu, Demian Linn, and Sebastian Haley.

The group discusses what constitutes a reboot, which games deserve one, which franchises developers have successfully restarted, and which old PC titles could use a modern update.

I'm disappointed that this episode isn't about the TV show Reboot.

We fucked up. This episode needs to be rebooted now.

@Shoe Have you taken a look at Xenonauts. It's an indie project that's sort of a spiritual reboot of X-COM

Yeah, I'm eagerly anticipating Xenonauts.

Not looking forward to 2K's XCOM (without the hyphen) at all. I don't think it'll really capture everything that makes the original strategy games so engaging.

I will probably play it at some point out of morbid curiosity, though.

I feel the same way. There's nothing about 2K's X-COM that says X-COM to me, from what I've seen in the trailers. Of course, there is the possibility that there is something more to the game that would make it more like the old games but I doubt it. It's just not working for me. The atmosphere, style and gameplay is just nothing like the original games.

Rob has told me about that game. I'm basically waiting for him to tell me whether I need to check it out or not. :)

Rob: People who saw XCOM at E3 like it a *lot* better now than they did before....

But Dan, I don't see anyone writing about how much better XCOM was at this year's E3...or at all for that matter.

Still, if this is 2K's attitude toward X-Com, then I really don't think they have a clue.

I don't disagree with you, but I didn't see the game at E3. I can't remember who on staff mentioned it...maybe Sebastian, Omri, or Demian? *Someone* on Bitmob definitely told me it's better now! But I think it was hugely overshadowed by BioShock: Infinite.

Was it playable at E3 or was there just some footage. Did they show anything that wasn't in the trailer.

The MechWarrior series is PC only. The last version was MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, released in 2002. The spinoff series, MechAssault, is the console version (Xbox), which is more arcade than sim. Also, Smith & Tinker and Piranha Games have MechWarrior 5 already in development, so the reboot is underway.

And check out Perpetuum, Demian, for a MMO in the style of BattleTech. I've read many comparisons to EVE, too.

Photography is a relaxing activity even in zombie-infested games like Dead Rising. Besides Pokémon Puzzle League, Snap is the only other Pokémon game I’ve really gotten into.

I'm late to the party on this one, but I'm surprised no one mentioned Earthbound, a series in sore need of a reboot. Because it wasn't available in the states, I was forced to pirate the original. Nintendo, how 'bout that eStore??
