Industry veterans John Keefer (former Crispy Gamer, GameSpy, now EGM) and David Ellis (former 1UP, now 343 Industries) join Bitmob's Dan Hsu and Aaron Thomas to talk developers' focus on multiplayer, social games killing hardcore games, life after games journalism, and the best sound effects of all time.

P4KO sent us a classical version of the Mobcast theme, and I figured that this week was as good as any to use it. What will the man come up with next?

Downloading now. Topics sound pretty good this week, so I'm looking forward to a good show.

My first choice would be the FFXIII pack. Otherwise, the Bioshock 2 pack would be my second choice. Keep up the good work!

I've been pretty sad with David Ellis leaving 4 Guys 1 Up, the episodes leading to his leave were pretty somber, but with all the guest spots he's doing on awesome podcasts I'm getting more of him then ever. It's making me realize he isn't actually going anywhere.

Loved the discussion about story in games.  It's not something many people will talk about, but the detailed lore and backstory is one of the many things that WoW did right.  I've always liked the WarCraft story, but the 3+ years I spent playing WoW saw it turn into one of my favorite fictional universes, probably behind only Star Wars (and nothing else would really even come close).  I had never been a big fan of videogame-related novels/comics, but I devoured pretty much everything WarCraft-lore related, even if not all of them were stellar.  And depending on where BioWare takes it, I might one day say the same for Dragon Age.

I  find it interesting that developers who throw in multiplayer options just just satisfy an outspoken group does seem to be an odd ball lack luster addition. It reminders me how the X-box Turok death match add-on felt lifeless, but then that game didn't score well in reviews. The point is, would it be better to reinfine a game or place resources in multiplayer options? I prefer a solid 1player experience if it means not deviating from the main game.
