In honor of the Dreamcast's 10th Anniversary, I will reveal a deep dark secret that I have carried for too long, in the hope that I will be forgiven (plus, the statue of limitations is just about up):
In 2001, when Sega announced the death of their final console and retailers everywhere were liquidating their hardware stock, I traveled to an f.y.e. store in Schaumburg, IL, where I purchased the black 2K Sports console that came bundled with NBA 2K1, NFL 2K1, and NBA 2K1 for a mere $50. I then went home, removed the three games, and sold them at a nearby pawn shop for $5 each. The next day, I returned the Dreamcast to the store, telling the clerk, "I just can't afford it right now," and received a full refund. Three days later, I returned to the same store and purchased the base console from a different clerk for $50.
In short, I purchased a Dreamcast for $35...and my soul.
I'm sorry, Sega. I really am.
